Maybe I'm in the minority here but the idea of owning a 10+ year BMW or Audi just doesn't bode well with me, particularly when they are from East Coast having exposed to salt.

Really depends on if it was used during the winter or stored.

Little details tell a lot about owners. Its not always accurate 100%, but its a good gauge.

Love the look of these cars though. | Generally true, but i can see why it isn't the truest indicator, as i don't wash my car as often as most. but i do all maintenance work on time. So there are some exception i suppose.

I bought my Stagea just based off inspection reports. But there are plenty of services to hire that will inspect auction and dealership cars as if they are a trusted friend. Worth using a service like that if you are buying a high-priced vehicle, of course.

I'd rather ride a bike than deal with owning a crusted up Ontario car.

I would think calgary cars have the same issue, do they? snow + road salt = rust right?

1. Is the car garaged indoors most of the time?
2. Is the car washed regularly?
3. Is the car rust proofed?
4. Is the car actually from Calgary or middle-of-nowhere Alberta?
There are plenty of Calgary and Toronto cars that don't have rust, and that's because the owners wash them regularly and have them stored indoors.
Our aunt's Corolla, originally from Vancouver, went up to Prince George for a few years. Came back and it had surface rust. She never washed it and left it outside. Some food for thought.

From the perspective of corrosion the entire county is hard on cars with the exception of the Lower Mainland IMO.
Ontario cars CAN be okay so long as they were genuinely never winter driven - though be warned, most people drive their cars year round and most cars are coated with rust proof.
Quebec has hard winters compared to the GTA, much more snowfall = much more salt on the roads, don't consider cars from Quebec unless they are some rich assholes summer toy. There are also a lot of rebuilds in Quebec that stay off the radar somehow.. maybe because the entire province is beyond corrupt.
Alberta cars endure hard winters with extensive rock chips and freeze thaw cycles, they rust.. the same issues are encountered in Sask and Manitoba.
The Maritimes and Newfoundland, don't even consider it, it's as if the air itself has an elevated salt content, even if your car never gets rained on it will still rust solely from elevated humidity and that salty-airness.
Basically, if you live in the lower mainland, take advantage of the fact that cars here corrode slow, if at all, the weather system here preserves cars remarkably well - Buy local.

Good rule of thumb is to simply avoid cars from Quebecistan. All sorts of crazy over there.

Agree with Jason above regarding rust.
Alberta is hard on cars, but not AS bad as Sask/Man. Alberta only uses sand on the roads, whereas Man and Sask used copious amounts of salt too.

Roads are also a lot worse outside of the lower mainland. Snow and ice makes for potholes.
So even if it's summer driven it's still taken more of a beating than local

The above ITR looks extremely clean. Under priced imo. That is if it has 0 claims/accidents.
