has the s65 engine - which is pretty damn reliable

very very little issues - if you take good care of it and run thinner oil in the winter

most that fail due to rod bearing (pre-2012) fail around 20-30k km mark - overall its a good price for the car

wasn't that sti was on craigslist last year? or was it another... the part about the spun bearing sounds familiar.

i think it was - it was for sale for a long time, think the side profile pic is the same.

Still seems like a great deal, if the paperwork is there, inspect and offer 18k.

I need to own an STI at some point - even if it's just for a couple of months to get it out of my system.

I believe the asking price for that silverstone nsx when it was for sale in Calgary was $89,000 just a few months ago and somewhere in the mid 60s a few years ago... It's bs that a car flipper bought it and not a true enthusiast

You can be a car flipper and still a true enthusiast. Case in point, I bought my NA8 Miata for way under market value and just sold it for top dollar last week. I spent a ton of time and care with the car though and I guess the newest owner of it could appreciate that, unlike the other 95% of time wasters who ask a million questions and don't even come to check the car out.

Well in your case you probably spent a lot of time and effort to make the car nice again. The nsx flipper had the car for 2 months and probably did nothing to it

Buying something simply to sell something to someone that wants it more for more money without providing some sort of service or benefit is the single thing wrong with the way capitalist economy works. Thats why our real estate market is fucked. Thats why poor people eat shit food. Thats how the rich get richer. Its actually a fundamental flaw in unmoderated capitalism being a plausible economic principle. Its frustrating to watch in the car market.
My disgust for it is why I'll never get rich unfortunately for me.
You get more money by using your money to keep things from people that truly want them. Doesn't that seem so greedy?

While I can understand your leftist feels, the reality is this, the only thing stopping you from being rich and successful is you.

Do I get annoyed that I can't just go buy up all the 997 GT3 RS 4.0's? Yes, but that's my fault, I should have worked harder, saved more, learned more, sacrificed more etc.

Having said all that, the current sports car market bubble will pop and there will be greedy people trapped with assets they don't really want that they will be forced to sell at a loss.

GT4 market is a wonderful example, these things sold like hot cakes at dealers, but nobody really wants to own one, it was just flippers hoping to cash in on p-car GT hype. Resale market is imo flooded and the cars on rennlist are now changing hands at MSRP.

^ That happens in a lot of markets. People capitalizing on demand. Especially when a product is in limited supply and is first released. Everything from Playstation, Justin Bieber tickets and GT3 .

Speaking of GT3, I read that a 991 GT3 RS buyer in Toronto with an allocation has already agreed to sell their car upon receiving it for $75k over MSRP. Not a bad pay day for just buying a car. Then dealer #2 will probably inflate the price and make money as well.

Source: Are asking prices for GT3RS/GT4 etc crazy? - Page 2 - Rennlist Discussion Forums

That NSX seller may not be a flipper. They might have decided to throw it on Ebay and if someone pays a ridiculous price... well there are other cars to buy. If it doesn't sell they just keep and enjoy. Win win. Of course their ad drips with salesmanship.

I'm very successful, just not rich. They don't go hand in hand for me necessarily. I'm very opposed to the finance forward ways of making money. I think skills and importance to society should dictate a paycheque, not the money someone already has. Either way I'll digress after this with my communist ways in here. I'm sure its not popular opinion.

And your acceptable level of douchiness. Anyones ability to make money is on a scale based on your skillset and willingness to be a prick to make a buck. Personally I think "success" has less to do with money and more to do with not being a twat, so I earn what I earn and I don't feel like trying to take advantage of people just to make a bit more.

That said, it could be a case where the guy likes and wants to keep the car, but if someone really is desperate enough for one he'll let it go for a crazy price.
