Lots spent making the car look pretty and fast with little/no attention given to body or structural integrity (look at pic of rear, below the rear bumper). PogChamp
Unless I'm totally wrong, this car will be a pile of twisted rust after a few years of moderately hard driving.
IMHO if your gonna dump so much into a ride, do it RIGHT and ensure the body can handle it first! :yuno:

ad says original paint, that shit is 50 fucking years old.

also synchros going on tranny, needs rear end and better brakes. have fun selling that

Here's another oddball car during GM's shitty years. Cost $29k in 1992 dollars ($45k in today's money). Sold poorly and then became unicorn rare. They're not actually special overall but had some cool tech for their time.

Looks like Splendid Auto picked up this unicorn

Dunno about that. Owners really seemed to like em.

Even at 3900, it's pretty decent considering it's been driven and maintained

^Been eyeballing that GN. After seeing the Barrett Jackson one last year in Chilliwack it's hard to look at other subpar offerings. Not a bad deal but I'm thinking more like $15,000.

Mature older owner, Worth 12-13k max - which is what I offered when he had no price. He told me he was going to hold off until someone offers higher than me. He said he got a "quote" to have the paint fixed, which he explained to me of re-clearing some spots, wet sanding some spots, and blending some spots (The mirrors especially + trunk).... Worth almost to get a new paint job - (Of course, if you care.) For $20k, I expect mint paint and no cracking leather seats... which at 174k on black bmw leather is almost guaranteed. The engine did sound buttery smooth, and the gearbox was very tight.

Msged a friend about this, and he actually knows the owner of the car - He said it's an awesome car but he wouldn't touch it because "of the crazy shit that we put it through."

Seems like a lot of fun at a low price, but I have literally NEVER heard anyone who has actually owned a mini come out of the ownership with any sort of affinity for the car/brand.I'd be willing to bet its probably the lowest number of repeat buyers of any brand. That says a lot.

^Nope.

thumper 04-22-2016 12:29 PM

any specific reason? or is it just because it's an old benz? a friend asked so i posted it up here (as well as the mini) to see why...

Here's one for about 1/2 that, $4300, but a tad more kms, at 160K.
mini cooper s 2003

This one is at 165K kms, $5K - 2002 MINI Cooper S Hardtop 6Spd AIR LOCAL JUST MINT RUNS AND LOOKS GREAT!

Looks like a fun cheap fast little car for that $ but from little that I read, it seems like mechanical issues are common ... but then it is owned by BMW so that's par for the course.

The Producer 04-22-2016 12:51 PM

I had a bad Mini experience with my wife's 2008 R56 Turbo. Thanks goodness for warranty as I'd imagine the cost of the work they did over the course of her ownership would have been north of $20k. They are finicky cars.
