How is it even worthy of posting here in the good buy thread if it doesn't even have a fucking price?

A car that desirable and hard to find can be a good buy for someone almost regardless of the price.

I can't think of a more overrated/overpriced car than the S2000

I'm not saying it's bad at all... just crazy overrated.

If it's the same car then, October 2015:

It was listed at 28k last year. So sought after or not, bad buy unless price has been adjusted since. Again, if it is the same car that is.

I agree to an extent. Not really overrated, but overpriced yes.
I can't believe someone would pay 30k for one that isn't the absolute best of the best with like 20k KMs.

I'm looking for an s2000 and this guy is just full of shit lol. Basically I asked him the usual questions, and his answers were less than stellar.

Asked him if any accidents, he said Yes, there was a small claim on the front and rear bumpers from a previous owner. They replaced both bumpers with aftermarket ones.

Asked him about maintenance receipts, he said
I do not have receipts for the maintenance done as all of it post-purchase was done by me.

Asked him for pics and amount of accident damage Unfortunately I do not have any pictures, but the previous owner said that the damage was minor as only the bumpers were affected. The rest of the car is stock.

He said that the accident occurred in 2008 and 2010.

Asked him if he did a carproof prior to purchasing the car, he said The CarFax showed clean.

And the kicker, asked him for a ballpark range so we can work something out, he said At this point in time, I'm not sure if I really want to sell it, as it is such a great car To drive. Depending on what your budget is, is consider selling it.

Let me know what your budget is, as I do not want to waste either of our time.

Tell him your budget is 20-25k. But if he's not interested, you understand. the s2000 is such a great car. You will just keep shopping around.

It all depends where you heart lies I suppose. Though I agree prices are a bit rediculous, I also think the same could be said about e36/46's, especially the M3 versions. The prices for these cars is nuts, and to find a well sorted example is going to cost you. A lot.

Do I think the bimmers are overrated? Not necessarily, we all know they're great cars. Much like the S2000. But I would have a hard time paying current prices for a half decent M3. Especially a non-M car.

But I think most would agree that currently, just like the S2K, the e36/46's have a high fanboi tax as well. Can't think of any other car(s) that currently demand such a premium. Maybe 911's? But that's a whole other league lol.

It's a simple supply and demand curve. People are buying at higher than expected prices according to standard depreciation/on-paper feature-sets but that's probably due the the fact that if you want such a machine there are extremely few directly suitable replacements. As a singular composition the S2000, M3's and old Porsches represent the epitome of a different generation of car that will never again exist due to a ton of regulatory factors and major changes in technology, add in the fact that very few great examples survive to this day and that these cars all have loyal followings (for very real reasons) and IMO the pricing makes sense.

Agreed. If any of those were my dream car, and I came across a stock, low km, pristine example, you bet your ass I'd be willing to pay.

I suppose it's more for the shitty examples, that are beat up, rebuilt, etc, and sellers still expect top dollar. Very disheartening.

Non m BMWs are pretty reasonable. The only e46 I'd say is expensive is a zhp, a standard e46 328/330 are like 5-8k. E36 325is are like 2-5k

I agree with that. Like I said, the low milage desirable colour s2k for 30k? Sure.
The mailman car though? Fuck that.
Gotta disagree with the e36 m3 one though. Until about a year ago, they were probably the most underpriced of all of the cars that had that sort of following. You can still get the absolute best ones under 20k.
Jason turbo said it best when I aid I wanted to drive his type R.
"Its just your e36 with 50 less hp and wrong wheel drive" yet the nicest e36s are still 10k+ less than the nicest type R's.
Seems to be changing and they will become overpriced soon as well as speculators, flippers and dealers are picking them up en masse to drive up the market.

ITR does not match the E36 M3 however there are a few reasons why prices are higher.

Plenty of Honda fan boys who always wanted an R (Had an RSX owner ask if I want to sell mine yesterday.)
Easy to work on especially for those had had a modded Civic or Integra
Parts are cheap and plenty of maintenance parts in stock at Lordco

Clean manual E36 coupe and cab are rare here in Vic. Limited supply but demand has not caught up yet.

If it's the same dude, the car wasn't even his...he's selling it on behalf of his friend or some shit. Oh and the worst part... it isn't insured. He drove his friend's car from his house to Metrotown without insurance...

At the time, he said he's gonna sell it in the states (since the exchange rate was beneficial) if he doesn't get it sold locally in the next few weeks.

On another note.... the S2000 is expensive but it retains its value very well (it even appreciated slightly over the last few years). There's not too many cars in the same price range that you can buy, log 30,000 km in 3 years, and sell it for nearly the same price you bought it. Best part is that maintenance isn't that expensive because it is extremely reliable. Yeah you might fork out a bit more to get the car in the first place, but high chances of you being able to cash out at minimal losses down the road.
