so what engine would this one have if stock?

hud 91gt 06-01-2016 07:40 AM

The one you'd get laughed at for buying.

underscore 06-01-2016 07:48 AM

The 4AC if memory serves, which would be pretty lethargic after 300,000kms.

swfk 06-01-2016 08:05 AM

Check the VIN.
SR5 will say AE86 and GT-S will say AE88. SR5 has 4AC SOHC while GT-S will have the 4AG DOHC

tofu1413 06-01-2016 09:16 AM

North american SR5's sport AE86 Vin. fo reals :troll:

GTS were AE88 as per SWFK

SR5 had rear drum brakes, weaker rear axle, crappier seats, crappier steering wheel, mostly automatic.... list goes on. carb'ed SOHC 4AC....

Different suspension set up....

list goes on.

^ misleading ad trying to say it's the same engine as a K20A, sure it's similar but not 200hp. it's like the K20A3 the civic sir here had

but it's not a bad family hauler

You sure? The listing I'm seeing shows both the SR5 and GTS as AE86, everything else was an AE82 or CE80.

So! In the battle of the $10,500 Japanese luxobarges, which one wins, the Acura RL or this one? The Acura has a bit higher km but is arguably rarer and quotes full maintenance history and important PM already done. The Infiniti is a couple of years newer, has a pretty ubiquitous engine with lots of support and lower km but that janky sub in the trunk....:suspicious:

swap the rear end, bolt in a GTS trans and GTS motor. run carbs, so you don't have to swap the gas tank :megusta:

smoothie. 06-01-2016 11:07 AM

lookout for transmission problems with the RL, check fluid color and shifting behaviour

EndLeSS8 06-01-2016 11:22 AM

There are some good deals out there, but you pretty much need to jump on them

Last month, there was a clean title 2004 Lexus IS300 with 140,000km I think, automatic for sale for $6500. It was gone in a day

As for the IS250s/ IS350s on sale on Craigslist right now, I was looking at all of them for over a month before I bought mine. They're ALL overpriced right now, and very few of them are selling.

AE86 VIN & Engine Codes | HachiRoku.net

"- The SR5 has the sequence "AE86" in the number while, the GTS model has "AE88". This is very useful in telling if the car was originally a GTS or SR5.

- If the numbers T283 are located in by the VIN on the bottom right hand corner of the plate on the firewall, right after it says T50, the car was originally equipped with LSD, if the VIN instead has T282, the car was not originally equipped with an LSD"

If you see a VIN 'AE86' with the DOHC 4AGE then it's been swapped. If you don't mind a swap, make sure it's the GTS rear end
