What a shame. (enthusiast) Car flippers have a special place in hell waiting for them if I had my way. It could have been a way for a true enthusiast to get a deal on a car he'd love forever, or at least a long time.

I can't hate on a guy for hustling to make a buck. I'd do the same. He pulled the trigger when "true enthusiasts" didn't.

Edit: saw your post said it was originally 25k.
Kinda seems like a lot of work for a potential ~3k profit (after tax and assuming both sell for near list).
I would guess the thieves took it for a ride the car hasn't forgotten.
Mind you, 3k is 3k for a nice drive to the interior and back with a little paperwork..

I don't think someone would flip it for that price... it would have cost them $3k in taxes to buy at $25k... and they are ASKING $30k and nobody pays ask price on CL... I seriously doubt they would risk that to make <$2k

Are you guys kidding? It's simple economics...supply and demand. Are you saying that if you had the chance to make a quick $5k because you saw something under market value, you wouldn't make that money?
Back when the PS3 (and PS2, actually) first launched, I had access to 10 of them, bought them all and flipped them all within a day to nerds with too much money that needed to play the crappy launch titles immediately. Made almost $10k without ever opening a box. Is that wrong? I care so much less about how much someone else wants a car than $5k in my pocket because at the end of the day, people on Craigslist are just strangers.
If no one wanted it, no one would be able to flip and drive prices up. The market evens itself out.

I based my statement on asking prices and figured roughly 3k could be made for a day in the car and some paperwork.
That is, of course, if the buyer is willing to purchase for 3k more than the sellers total cost. And with a rebuilt, that's riskier than without the rebuild status.
My guess was the 3k profit wasn't the goal here, the car has some skeletons as a result of the theft and the buyer is trying to get as much back as he can by asking more than what he paid after tax.
If it really is a flip and they paid $21,500 as suggested here, thats just over 23k after tax and if he can get 28k or so, 5k is pretty good for a days work.

It could also be a case of "if I can get XX I'll sell it, otherwise I'll keep it and enjoy it"

If no one wanted it, no one would be able to flip and drive prices up. The market evens itself out. | I don't know, I've always been the guy that would give up the girl to the friend that really liked her, even when she liked me, or the guy that would give away his old snowboard gear to the person that needed it, instead of selling it. Maybe I'm an idiot, or maybe I just wish people were a little less greedy. The world would be a lot less shitty if people would let people get what they really wanted instead of looking it as a way to capitalize on what that person wants. Either way, I'm going off topic, but greed it what is going to destroy us as a species. It already has. I'm not saying money doesn't matter, because it does, but I'd rather someone be really happy than me fuck them for a few bucks.
Anyways, heres a 964 that doesn't carry any stories for less anyways. http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/cto/4572395090.html
Just for fun, heres the worst porsche buy of the century. http://victoria.craigslist.ca/cto/4595445412.html

At $28K, it's a good buy. Or pony up a bit more for a late model 996 or 997.1.

I would think he's just trying to salvage what he can financially. It's normally easier to sell a car that is in working condition than not, especially the Porsche market.
