Mine had none of those issues, but it seems I got lucky. | all of this ^ ... and so much more
the cam follower (vw used a bucket instead of a roller bearing... yeah) on my mechanical fuel pump failed and the plunger ate the camshaft lobe by carving into it in an effort to give it a round profile. when the pump and camshaft was replaced, they flushed the engine more than once, dropped my oil pan and even took apart my oil filter, but they couldn't 100% say that they found all the parts and other metal debris that fell inside the motor but that's not my problem anymore.
but even before that happened, my fsi engine was burning a litre of oil every 1500kms. every time i went for gas i would have to add oil. vw said it was within acceptable consumption range.
heavy carbon deposits blocked up my valves, which is something that gets worse with age/mileage... oh, the joys of early direct injection. so when i see an ad like this for something over 160k kms, i can't help but wonder what horrors are hiding inside the head.
vw used stretch bolts to mount the front lower subframe to the car, which would always come loose, enough for one time the subframe could be shifted up and down by hand. some sort of fix eventually came but i was long gone by then.
coil pack failure. x2. each one died one after the other, stranding me both times. after that i kept a spare in my glovebox just in case. i eventually replaced everything with those from the 3.2L V6 (audi version because red) as per recommendations from other vwvortex victims on my own dime and it never happened again.
even the hood hinges had to be warrantied. they weren't painted properly at the factory and seized from corrosion.
i kept a binder of technical service bulletins which eventually became the size of a small phone book. unfortunately they were from vw usa which vw canada lagged behind and often would not recognize until vw corporate eventually made it a canada thing as well, which took forever.
i used to do dealer service until my favorite service advisor quit and then customer service went downhill from there. i had to fight for warranty repairs to the point of arbitration (i lost), so i went to shift autosport instead. and then later when it started really getting expensive i found a retired vw tech who ran his own little indie shop from a converted shed in his backyard... it was he who told me to stop punishing myself and let it go.
i could go on but that would waste all the therapy I went through to forget

Mine had none of those issues, but it seems I got lucky. | Supposedly these are the common issues. Some intake tumbler valve / manifold and the PCV valve were also failure prone, but at least VW issued a factory recall + extended warranty on them, so most cars should have had that fixed.
My family had a MkV GTI w/ DSG, and we only had a "minor" oil consumption problem (and none of the other well known "major" stuff). Minor meant 1 QT or so's worth of oil consumed for every 4000 - 5000km, and I would have considered that to be quite high. But apparently, that is not at all a high amount of oil consumption for that engine.
Maintenance and repairs for the car were obviously higher than Japanese makes from the same era, but I would say that for the most part, the car has served our family very well.

Craigslist... cool.. buys?
I mean, it was basically the most reliable Alfa. Not sure if that says too much about it though.

Lol give him a break. It's at least way better than fucks who can't put punctuations, have weird spacing, and capitalize random letters along the ad. The people who do that I seriously worry about their mental state.

For those wondering: Kwisatz Haderach means 'shortening of the way'. It comes from the Chakobsa language spawned from the Bhotemi dialect which was used primarily by an ancient assassin culture.
How do I know this?
The Dune Encyclopedia. Yes, THAT Dune...
I think the poster of that Porsche is headed for another planet without a ship or a plan.

After a quick glance at the pics, I thought it'd be a quick respray but looking closer, it looks pretty nicely done (mechanically). I'd check how much bondo is on it though. Not a fan of it being automatic. If it's legitimately as clean as the pics show, I'd say it's a good deal.
