Exactly. It's a utility/people mover, not a sports car.

The front bumper was recently replaced due to a racoon attack; no structural or frame damage was encountered.

it is more like 12-13k, 6-7k for a decent one at auction plus import fees so min 11k. more if you want a low mile grade 4

nah... might be perfect for dads who gave up their sports car when the wife and 2.5 kids happened and are in denial :D

but taking a brief glance at the toyota van forums doing a manual swap seems to be an often asked question? but it might be supercharged previa owners who want to get out from under the automatic trans because only the n/a version got the manual trans.

I have such a strong desire to blow some money on a car I don't need... but it's like there is nothing of interest for sale :(

#firstworldproblems

I'm even looking at importing something from Japan, that's how you know I'm desperate.

only for masochists...

from mbworld:

Quote:

These cars don't have ordinary springs for suspension. They either have a complex pneumatic suspension with an air pump, pressure storage tanks, pneumatic struts, etc. (called Airmatic) or an even more complex hydraulic system (called ABC) with a high-pressure oil pump, hydraulic struts, valves, computers, pressure sensors, level sensors, accelerometers, servos and enough oil lines to build a pipeline. The pumps can fail in either system to the tune of thousands. ABC valve blocks are popular (and will run at least $1,000 with fluid flush). Struts leak, are very expensive and can be hard to find other than at the dealer. And most independent shops are just not qualified to repair, or even align, these suspension, so you have to pay dealer rates. You may be fine for a couple of years, but when the dreaded AIRMATIC FAILURE or ABC FAILURE appears in red on your dash, you're in it for big bucks.

Then there are the expensive electrical modules (really computers) like the SAM, DCM and EIS. A dead battery turns out to take three hours of labor to diagnose plus $1,000 to replace one of those modules. It's only a matter of time. These are not cheap cars to maintain when the warranty is over.

someone my dad knows had one. i think it was a 2000MY. his had the airmatic suspension which failed in a big way. the shop he took it to quoted something like $5-7k to repair. this was around 2013 so there was no warranty to speak of. they ended up stripping a parts car for enough airmatic parts to get the failure light to go away and then traded it in at a loss (factoring whatever he had to spend to get it "driveable") for a 750iL... which is a story for another day

Looks like he added rice tail lights, tint... I wonder what other stuff he's added. Might be a rescue project or might be a hole in the ground for your money.
