I've noticed the absolute crazy influx of fake s2k ads when I'm on Craigslist. 99% of the ads on there are fake, all with no license plate or even covered plates that you can tell are from bc. Pricing has gone crazy along with the itr.

This is strangely tempting. Are there Alfa shops in Vancouver?

I know there's the dealer down by science world but don't know of many shops that are specific to alfa. Lots of good euro shops tho

He's probably one of the only few surviving factory-trained technicians from the 70s and 80s back in Italy who immigrated to North America. He's a great mechanic, but VERY expensive. Another mechanic with extensive Alfa Romeo experience is Soares Auto Repair at the northwest corner of E. Hastings and Clark in Vancouver. The owner (I believe his name is Joe Soares) continues to do routine maintenance on older Alfa Romeos for an extensive list of owners in Vancouver.
Ultimately, Alfa Romeo's are not complicated, especially from that era, but there are odd quirks here and there that take experience and training in order to make it properly work. If you are interested, I would highly recommend a PPI. It's a nice example of a 164 especially in manual. I'd err on the side of caution simply because the car isn't driven too much, but that rule applies to any car, even a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic.
Whatever you do, DO NOT take it to Clemente's on Kingsway in East Vancouver. High school kids taking shop class can do better work than this place.

Clementes on Kingsway. Edit: Just saw duke's post.. lol.. the problem with Alfa's are there arent' that many shops to pick from. Italian Motor Sports Parts, Accessories, Car Restoration | Vancouver, BC
These cars are not that hard to work on.. the model is 25+ years old.. the problem would be finding parts.
Most Alfa owners I had known through the years have parts cars that they devour every few years. Quote:

LOL! Yeah, please do not take any car there.
My suggestion is if you want an older Alfa Romeo, you should be prepared to have space and the funds for a parts car. There are parts suppliers, but they are in the US now, and with the exchange, it isn't worth owning one for a short period of time. I was very lucky to have owned mine when the dollar was at part and had access to a parts car with another Alfa Romeo owner in Delta.

I'm almost positive there were photos of it in another garage. I wonder if someone else ended up buying it and found out something shocking (like its not actually an M package).

67,000 km facelift E46 https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/nvn/cto/5998410433.html
Only a 325 and definitely priced on the higher side but it looks like a perfect example if you really want a good one.

That's a much better buy than the coupe. I think that's a real solid buy. Even though the e46 is pretty meh in non M or 330 form, that's a cheap, safe, reliable, good looking car.

Last year S2000s were selling for 11-14k (early models with 100-160k) and now people are asking 35k... lol... i want what they are smoking.
Makes me want to go down to seattle, where prices are normal; and pick one up for 9k usd with same specs. With no RIV on 2001-early2002 models, its actually not a complicated process.

I agree that prices aren't as high down in the States, but they've also gone up there too in recent years.
I think a lot of non-owners don't realize the world of financial hurt they can find themselves in after buying an "affordable" AP1, and then out of the blue experiencing motor failure because it was over-revved by the previous owner.

S2000 are going to remain desirable...but forking over 20k for one no longer makes sense (unless CR)
might as well just pony up to importing an Elise or drive off a lot with a brand new ND MX5

if well maintained.... most cars should be able to do 500k kms..
500k kms E36 would probably be owned by a guy that actually cared for the thing and gave it what it usually needs (bushings, cooling system work, shocks, wheel bearings)

Not 20k, but some have come under 30k, with relatively low mileage (83k km) such as this: 2005 Magnetic Blue Elise with Biscuit Interior - LotusTalk - The Lotus Cars Community
It's unfortunate how weak our dollar is now. If it weren't, it makes importing one of these bad boys a lot more tempting than buying early AP2s with 100k km for $25,000.
