I don't understand why the 1m135is Mpower LOL edition is commanding so much money. Yeah they are cool
Yes the m2 is better
Yes the m2 looks better

You could buy an ratty e30 m3, e36 m3 and e46 m3 for 81k and actually be driving cars that were designed to be M-cars instead of a pretty cool parts bin car.

The M2 is a better car. 1 series M is limited edition and highly collectible.

It's collectors and speculators driving up the price.

our e36 M3s are the parts bin cars

1M has bespoke bodywork - not parts bin.

I personally think the M2 is shockingly ugly from every angle. :moderated:

If I could walk into a dealer right now and buy a lightly owned 1M vs an M2 for the exact same price (and warranty) there would be no question I'd take the 1M.

I'm not alone on that. We were posting 50k examples of 1M's last year - everybody said they'd come down when the M2 arrived. Incorrect.

As for a (maybe) good buy (for some):

R56 mini's with a bunch of work done dropping down below 10k. I loved my R56 mini, despite it being plagued by first year production issues. I've been thinking about dipping my toe back in the water for a daily. Something like the above that's had a bunch of somebody else's money spent on it already.

Besides the usual k20A2, 6spd, different cluster; Canadian Type S should also have heated seats, heated mirrors, gunmetal 16s, painted lip kit.

Most important of all, the under brace for Type S only.

This is from the article.

Remarkably, that value slightly exceeds the $47,010 base price of the model when new.

Imagine a world where you buy a car, drive it a realistic number of km's per year, then sell it for a $5000 profit. It makes no sense.

That's actually not a bad idea. They're fun cars, and the prices have dropped enough that it's almost worth it to have the little issues taken care of when they come up.

Just wait..... now that we've talked about minis in this thread, the prices are going to skyrocket!

:lol

I had an insane amount of trouble with my wife's '08 since new. Constantly at the dealer for BS codes, CEL, and whatnot. They eventually took the head off and cleaned it, rebuilt the turbo, and some other stuff. We had their courtesy car for 2 months. The warranty work alone during our 4 year ownership would have eclipsed $15K had the vehicle not had warranty. The dealer was great to deal with yet we lost faith in the car and sold it before the warranty was up.

Having said that, the car was an awesomely fun car. This one for sale doesn't list the LSD which I feel is a must have since Mini changed the LSD to a "traction control system" type of LSD in 2009 I believe which is fucking balls shitty. Perhaps a DIY'er with some BMW skill set could own this car and deal with it's issues and not get raped at a dealer. In that light I'd say you would have fun with the car

clicked the link hoping to see a Premium/Base being sold as a Type S, but it doesn't seem like that's the case. I see many cues for a Premium/Base but also many for Type S.
front lip should be painted black
sideskirts might be painted or might be black plastic, hard to tell. Should be painted black though
Rims are the 02-04 Premium
Heated mirror button is there
Strut bar is there
Bigger brakes in the front

just to add to your info, a lot of the things you pointed out are for the 02-04. 05-06 didn't have as many differences between American and Canadian. I think by 04, American's might have even got heated mirrors in the Type S

"has noise when first start for 2 sec and goes away,"

This is indicative of the VVT actuator failing. The noise is the timing chain slapping the valve cover. Around $1400+ to fix at the dealership.

Is the e36 just a parts bin car? It does have a bespoke engine, and they welded it together differently... or did I just buy into too much BS?

I don't know why anyone would pay $200k for a 3 year old 991 Gt3 when you build a 2018 one with the 4.0 motor for less money. Base price for 2018 is $163k

In theory, yes. In reality, PCV is currently only taking deposits for the .2 GT3 *if* you have a GT-car to trade OR you buy the .1 for 200k and trade it in when the .2 comes in. Obviously at a 40-60k deficit. Is fucked...

SkunkWorks 04-19-2017 08:19 PM

Oh and GTS doesn't count as a GT-car for trade-in, we checked :(
