Is that actually a lime rock edition? I didn't think all fire orange cars were lime rock cars.

Lime rock was USA only.
Canadian verions were dubbed "fire orange edition"
Lime rock cars had optional M performance parts on them and some other trim differences.

Car is NOT in good condition cosmetically (MY OPINION).
Driver door panel has a gash in it. The inside door handle looks like it was mangled with keys. The button/console area to raise/drop the roof is all scuffed up. Aftermarket deck installed, factory controls don't work and I believe the driver side speaker is also out.
Silver area surrounding the black H on the airbag is mangled.
The front bumper has met with a lot of curbs and can be clearly seen. As a result, it doesn't fit as nicely as it should for a car with no accidents.
Clutch slips even though it was supposed to have been done at 80-85k. Clutch pedal is stiff.
Trunk release inside cabin does not work. Rear bumper has a scar/gash from being backed into. Trunk lid LED is not working.
VIN tag area in the driver's side door is all scratched up and nicked. Might be from owner dropping his keys there and closing the door on them?
Overall paint condition looks fair only because it's silver. I myself am not that picky but for somebody who expects it to be free from many swirls and noticeable scratches, it's a little disappointing.
Tires are quite new but made in China.
Appears to be a small leak from the tensioner service port on engine.
Car was serviced at a jiffy lube at some point in its life (saw the service decal under the hood).
Brakes did make some noise. Shifter needs rebuilding.
In my opinion, plan on spending 5-6k to shine it up.

bondo on the front left fender, overspray on the right front fender.
front bumper doesn't fit right.
Air diverter under the front bumper, one side is missing.
Suggests it's hit more than a curb.
whoever owned it before or currently was not kind with the jack on the car. Rocker panel shows jacking points all mangled.
who knows what's under the car then?
Roof lets in water (admission by the owner).
Driver seat is done like dinner. Rust in various areas all over the car.
Clutch is on its way out.
Would make a good track rat or dirty canvas to begin a long project overhaul.
Bodyman special.

the conditions of the S2000s posted are to be expected on a almost 17 year old car.
simply put, if a S2000 shopper will want a very good example, they will fork out the coin for a clean clean driver, something well over $30k in today's market, a joke, I know, but this goes for all desirable enthusiast cars. (if not all cars)
You get what you pay.

^^ true - especially example #1 could be exactly what somebody is looking for that is willing to put in some work.
Got to give it up for RagingAngel for the detailed review though - excellent content for this thread.

Thanks for the props guys.
I'm no expert.
Just pointing out the obvious things that many of us would probably be looking for.
Rule of thumb here does apply. If you're looking for something that you can jump in and drive and has little to no issues...
...You NEED to spend at least 22k to 26k on an AP1 and an AP2 starts at 30k.
This rings true for this current/local market.
Good luck to all who may be in the market for S2000s.

yeah the S2000 price range and conditions reflect very similarly to the DC2 ITR market.
Everyone wants one, but only a few step up their budget to get a pristine example.

Rebuilding the engine at 260K is about time anyways. If the owner did indeed keep the rest of it in good shape its a solid buy.

I don't know why but this seems like a pretty good deal. Works out to ~$6600 each.
