Is there anything special about 1999 SiR? I realize it may be a rare car now but considering its age and such high mileage, is $6,500 mostly for the brand? You can have a newer Mazda 3 GT for that price or even less. I prob just don't know enough about SiR.

EM1 is the last Civic that still rides on wishbones at all 4 corners. The B16A2 is also one of the last awesome classic Honda engines that you have to have driven to appreciate how good it is.

No offence to the Mazda3, but as good driving a car as it may be, it doesn't hold a candle to the EM1 in terms of fun factor.

But yes, $6500 is definitely on the high side. The condition seems to be excellent from the way the pictures look, but I think the buyer is fishing for someone willing to pay a bit more to appreciate the car for what it is. I'm not sure if a buyer like that would exist for this car, but I guess we will see.

Electron blue is the easiest to sell cus nostalgia.

I had a 99 SiR black with just 62kms (!) Had suspension, I/H/E and some mild exterior mods.
Had a hard time selling it. I think I let it go for 8400

These are fun cars but don't have a lot of collectiblity here. Si is worth more in the US. I have seen a stock electron blue go for 16k CAD in Florida.

Perhaps it's rebuilt? There have been a couple of rebuilt blue EP3's in the region. The taillights are from an 02-03.

The EM1 SiR gains it's rarity as it was only offered in '99 and '00. The SiR goes further in that the U.S. only got the "Si" and the "SiR" cluster and designation makes it desirable to a potential U.S. buyer. The Si in the U.S. and SiR in Canada are virtually identical aside from the cluster and badges AFAIK.

My friend sold his silver 2000 SiR that was shit-kicked, had all the panels keyed and had 220k kms for $4200 over 2 years ago. He bought it 1 year prior with about 190k kms for exactly $6,500.

Canadian EM1's have heated mirrors and ABS. One of the colours was also not available in the States, Vogue Silver Metallic I think.

Speed 6 😍

Check for noise during start up at cold, it hints of zoom zoom boom.

Some key known issues:
- diff mount
- engine mounts
- zoom zoom boom (turbo/engine blowing)
- diff breaking

See my thread in the Mazda tech section, if anyone's seriously interested in buying.

Oh RS gods please advise if this is a "good buy"

https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/ctd/6117169778.html

It was originally posted for 57k early this year. Priced dropped to 55k now sitting at 52k. I went in to see it when it was 55k and they wouldn't budge on price. A week later its reduced again. At what price would you say this becomes a good buy?

Black book says avg is 49k but this is coming with a CPO warranty for 2 years.

Thoughts?

At 50k I'd look harder for a 997 than a cayman, but thats just opinion, not really advice. I don't follow the prices of Caymans very closely.

not sure if considered good buy, but more of an unusual buy.

sub 1000kg curb weight.

fun fact: the front fender and front nose panels on these cars are fiber glass! saves weight and no rust!

Floor pan and quarters usually rust... if not rusty, this is a neat little fun car for the summer.

I've been eyeing this one since it was originally posted at the higher prices. For $52k, I'd personally still opt for paying more on a brand new minimally optioned 718C with a full warranty instead of an 8 year old CPO 987.2 CS. Having said that, because Caymans -- esp one with a manual tranny -- are so rare in the used market, it is very difficult to get a good grasp on what the going market price is.

A similarly equipped 981 CS with CPO is going to ask for quite a bit more -- probably in the +/-$70k range. Personally, I think that is just bloody ridiculous, but their prices have all been like that (from the various local Porsche shops).

If a 987 is what you are craving for, I think $52k is certainly an acceptable price to pay, assuming that everything checks out and that it is a CPO. At a minimum, you owe it to yourself to at least go check the car out. I recently had the opportunity to drive a 987.1 CS at 7/10, and I certainly enjoyed the drive. It didn't quite blow me away as I had hoped, but the extra displacement in the 987.2 should come in handy.

Actually trying to look at this one. Owner says he's only had it for a few weeks though, which is kind of a red flag.

The transmissions on the Millenias were notorious for failure.
If the RX8 hasn't already had it's engine rebuilt/replaced/apex seals done, I'd avoid.

k20a3 and b16a2 are both gutless motors.

As you mention, Caymans are relatively rare in the used market, especially 987.2s as much fewer were sold when compared with 987.1s, given the economy during the 987.2. In the time I was looking for Cayman Rs in the Lower Mainland, there were 4 for sale over the span of 2.5 years.

The .1 and .2 are similar, though the .2 has a more modern feeling interior (still not as nice as the 981s) and you do notice the engine differences (in a good way).

I don't know if I'd pay 52k, and there's a smaller pool of potential buyers (say compared to buying a higher mileage 987.1 for 30-40k), so I'm not too surprised the car has been sitting for a while. Having said that, I paid more for my Cayman R but that was also because I really wanted an R.

This Cayman has the standard "skinnier" triangle steering wheel from the 987.1 generation (they changed the standard wheel in 2010), but otherwise, the other options are good--sport seats, sport chrono which adjusts the throttle response, rev limiter (harder cut off), and other stuff.

Under 55k means no luxury surtax (PST + 1% to 3%). I echo Traum--check out the car and see how you like it in person.
