Gotta watch out for the 1st gen Matrixes and 9th gen Corollas because the odometers stop at 299999 km, for most of them, if not all.
Literally eternally 290k km hahaha
But awesome price for an XRS

They're extremely cheap to maintain though. I'm not sure about the XRS with the 2ZZ, but for the XR with the 1ZZ that Toyota used in basically everything even if the engine grenades a new engine was dirt cheap because they're so common and they rarely die. The underbody is the same as a 7th gen Celica so it's basically a Celica wagon and surprisingly fun to drive.

I remember reading an interview with a Lotus representative when Lotus switched to Toyota engines and they said that they had to modify the oil sump and ECU pretty substantially in order to meet their standards for reliability on the track.
I can't for the life of me find it online, though.

whatever they did - they still fail pretty hard
pretty much the 2zz in the lotus is the exact same
to make it even remotely track ready - you'll need a baffle oil pan because the oil pan is essentially the same thing from a matrix/celica
a lot of lotuses have oil starvation issue cz of this
to make it even more reliable one would need to keep the gas tank above 50% mark or have a baffled gas tank / surge tank
Nice! Only caution from posting, still if not serious, a great find!
Only ONE problem: Engine light ON. Engine misfire. I bought a new car so both my wife and I can drive it. Reason: My wife doesn't drive a standard. Otherwise, I definitely will get it fixed. If you're good at repairing the engine problem, then it will be for you. The car still drives but installs a bit when it stops. One shop said it needs a valve job done.

I don't agree. I would say $15K for a mint one, low mileage one (not this one).
Former Spec. B owner here. The car IS different from a GT, but it's mainly for the 6 speed manual (same as STI)
Yes, the shocks are Bilstein. But if they haven't been replaced, they will need to in another 20K anyways.
The wheels are 18". But so are the ones on my VW.
The timing belt with water pump isn't a $2K job. Everyone just buys the Gates kit for $300 and pays an indy (like HBL) to install for $500 or DYI if you are capable.
Not saying it's not a nice car, but you definitely want to get the motor checked out by a Subaru specialist (e.g. HBL) before you buy it.
I think it's priced right given the engine issues.

I thought gilly was talking about in general. Since you're a former Spec. B owner, would you say it lives up to the hype? A mature STI, some would say. I'm into the whole sleeper thing, so LGT, Spec. B's, FXT, have always caught my eye.

It's more a fancier LGT, than a mature STI. But if the sleeper subaru is your thing, it's worth it. You could always mod it for more power, but the STI has way more aftermarket support (e.g. exhaust).
I'd rather have LGT wagon (manual), but I found those are much harder to come by.
FXTs are so damn expensive. My preference is the boxy ones like the one above (and do an sti conversion) but even the new ones hold value very well, esp in mt
