I've heard that contracts aren't legally binding unless it's written by a lawyer with some other requirements behind it. If I'm wrong feel free to correct me though.
Doesn't matter who writes it, as long as it is something legal(contract to sell crack isn't valid), there is a meeting of the minds(person understand what is going on i.e not suffering from dementia/age restrictions), and it is not signed under duress(threatened in to signing). At least that's why I remember from contract law in Law 11.
Maintence is not bad if you go aftermarket parts and diy.
Drivetrain is bulletproof.
Only issues of concern are
-SBC hydraulic unit
-air suspension
-valve cover gasket leaks
Please refer to Richard Mozis as the chassis and drivetrain are the same as E55.
2006 CLS 55 is virtually the same as 05-06 E55 when it comes to the mechanicals. I cover all the things to look for here. Maintenance items such as oil changes, brake pads/rotors are not that expensive, especially diy.

Contracts are legally binding when it consists of an offer and acceptance of a legal good or conduct generally speaking. Doesn't have to be written by a lawyer, Craigslist or everyday transactions are legally binding as well. Special exceptions to mentally incapable individuals, kids, youth, elderly, insane, intoxicated people.
In this case, there was an offer to sell the car (ad), they negotiated, with Prostrho giving her an offer and she accepted. That is binding right there. When the lady said that Prostrho can't take the car blah blah blah... after the acceptance, she can't legally do that.
However, say Prostrho tells her I'll offer you $5k for the car and she says, I accept your offer on the condition of me buying a new car in two weeks. Prostrho agrees. That's a binding contract as well.
This example is a the lady rejecting Prostrho's offer and counter-offering with her own and if he accepts then it's a contract as well.

Welcome back to RS, Limitless! Haven't seen you on here in awhile. Sorry, didn't get the notification but it looks like RS got you.

TLDR; Offer and acceptance = contract.
Adorkami and Lamboda both wrote very well versed explanations. I'd add that even if a party says they were joking/not serious, as long as there was shown intent to fulfill the promise, it's validates the contract.
In hindsight, Underscore and Limitless are right. Even though it is legally binding, its probably not worth the legal effort to go after $500 - a deposit. Even if the court orders the defendant to pay, they could just avoid paying it, then pay a little bit, and not pay again.
I wrote a contract with all the components that were addressed above, when I bought my first car on Craigslist, earlier this summer. Aside from deposits on CL being a bad idea, the contract can also show the seller that you are a serious buyer.
RS has always been a great resource for me, so here's the contract that I used, for whoever needs/wants it. As said before, don't assume it's a godly item. Do your due diligence on the car, and limit yourself to risk, I am not accepting liability for if shit goes down and you used this document.
I know this is a repost, Brown 2008 Subaru Legacy GT stick shift, thought I mention there's been a price drop in it, down to $13,000 obo

Verbal contract, good luck with that in court! While it might possess the facets of a contract, it would be a "he said, she said" scenario in court and not worth anyone's time to pursue.

This is as rare as this gen legacy wagon can get. Would have jumped on this for this price, but not for his original asking price. Always kicking myself whenever I see that legacy ad
Is this a good price? Too much maintenance worry for me but I always liked the the style and presence of these cars
I've been pondering this car for the last couple days, and decided to go see it this afternoon. Needless to say, this car needs a bit more work than I expected, and the mileage is actually 185xxx km, contrary to the post. For anyone interested, below were my observations:
First thing I noticed was a slow leak in the rear passenger tire, needs new rear tires overall/rims could use a refinish. Valve covers are sweating, passenger front window regulator is shot, needs a good detail inside/out, there was slight surface rust forming on the trunk underneath the rear plate from rubbing, and I found a gas receipt in the console for regular fuel...
Seller didn't know anything about the maintenance history as the vehicle belongs to his parents. Apparently there's a $3000 claim on it from 2008. They've owned the car for approximately a year and a half, selling to get into a van. They've reduced the price aggressively the last couple of days, down to $14,800, but he was willing to take $13,800 on the spot.

I've been thinking hard on it too, thanks for saving me the time.

Can someone let me know what this car is really worth, or what price would be a "steal"? Hows the maintenance on these things? I know nothing about subarus but I've heard all these horror stories of engines being rebuilt due to some issues.
Seriously looking for a winter car to travel aroudn town in and take the dogs out.

Leakdown and compression test done by HBL or TSS and they'll be able to tell you about its health
2010 Lancer Ralliart with low mileage asking $13,000
Doesn't seem too bad.

A steal price would be around 5-6k. If you drive it hard, maintain it like you would a GD/GR STI. I currently own two legacy gt. One is 05 and one is 07. The 05 is has 260,000km on the original motor, turbo, 5MT drivetrain, suspension. I bought the car at 175k. its on its 2nd set of timing belt, clutch, wheel bearings, starter, valve cover gaskets. I've tracked the car stock numerous times. I recently went full retard and did a full 6mt STI transmission swap, brembos, ohlins, new bushings. The motor and turbo seems to be holding up well.

No worries. Based on the overall condition, I got the vibe that this car was never properly maintained, and this was a last effort to sell the car for more than what the dealership was offering them on a trade in.

Did someone on here grab this Ralliart?
