id still try to fuck with it. Low ball him down to 5-6k for it,
add coilpacks (1200 per side) say $3000 for a conservative estimate,
replace ABC with coilovers,
change fluids

Damn that car brings me back.
I bought my Prelude new back in 98', not knowing if the SiR was coming to Canada. When they announced it was coming, I had total regrets. Especially when the first one I encountered on the streets blew my doors off in a race.

Back when that sort of thing wasn't so frowned upon.

Probably Japanese since maintenance will be easier. Either transmission is fine.

2013 FRS/BRZ are around that price range now. Reliability wise hit/miss depending on chance I've heard but a sportier car to zip around the city and decent fuel mileage. Versatile for mods as well.

Personally, I'd avoid the 2013 FRS/BRZ. As the 1st model year car, they received a horrible stock ECU tune that does not play well in high rpm. I forgot what the exact problem was, but the end result is, with extended high rpm usage, some sort of seal / gasket overheats, stuff melts, and the engine seizes. Toyota/Subaru has reportedly issued a revised ECU tune for them, and the problem is not supposed to affect 2014+ cars. The 2013 cars are supposed to receive the updated ECU tune as well when the owner brings it back to the dealership, but who knows whether the owner has done that. And even if they did, you'd never know how much damage has already occurred.

^ that explains seeing a bone stock FRS pop the motor at the track..

Winning for under 20k.

Only the V12 models have ABC, the rest have Airmatic, and Arnott Industries sells air shocks with lifetime warranties

Check for frame rust around the rear axle. Body rust under the rear seats and under the flares. Also rear link bushings and shocks. Otherwise, they're usually pretty solid.

$140 for an Exedy kit on Rock Auto, still cheap as hell.

fliptuner 10-26-2017 09:05 PM

On second thought, if the clutch holds enough, just revmatch to/from the ferry. Save a few hundred bucks if it's not completely fucked.

Checked this out today. Clean car.but it's a Japanese import, such a big let down. Needs new brakes and front tires.

Robert Stack 10-27-2017 11:15 PM

Damn, I watched a video a while ago regarding the early year W221 problems and now it's escaping me.
Also, the W221.1 does look pretty sharp considering it's over 10 years old!

Japanese import but lhd, I'd be down for that in a e46 m3 format. Aside from brakes and front tires, was it just cause it was jdm that it was a let down?
