say what you will about the 1M - it's value has remained fixed and is maybe even increasing already. I'm actively talking myself out of financing the !@ out of this thing. get into trouble - sell it off.
ya ya, buy a 135i for a 1/4 the price.

Its just not THAT great of a M car... hell its not even a real M car. 135i (if you dont look at its reliability) is so friggin close to this performance wise, its a joke.
m2/3/4 just kills it.

This is an M1.
When BMW released the 1 series they didn't want to dilute the racing history of he M1 with a parts bin compact (an awesome one) sharing the same name, so they called it the 1M.

m2/3/4 just kills it. | absolutely right.
price going up only because they sold 220 in Canada, with a few already written off....
hype because of the rarity. the M2 is the better car hands down, clearly shown more time spent on developing the M2 than the 1M itself. Quote:

M1 was a mid engine car from the late 70s to early 80s. pretty exotic stuff back in the day.
1M is not related to it. (hence 1M.. or else wouldve named M1)
edit// wes beat me to it (by ten mins... was afk for a bit)

1m is more desirable to me than an m2
also, unless something significant changes in the next few years I think you could drive the white one for free for awhile if your willing to tie up the cash, and keep the miles relatively low
Do it porsche GT style - pay msrp and sell it a year later for more than you paid

I'd prefer the 1m as well. You've gotten to me. I just wish they came in some better colours. I don't think they deserve the price they have obtained though.
Not NA
Not cable throttle
Not lightweight (relatively speaking)
Not particularly attractive
They are cool, but the "raw" reputation they have is done much better by other cars.
I can't understand them costing double literally the best e46 m3 you can buy.

I can't understand them costing double literally the best e46 m3 you can buy. | 60k can get you a very decent north american spec E30 M3. NA, cable, lightweight, box. Provided that you are willing to travel a bit to get the car. Give it a couple years and its going to double in price. Much better buy than a 1m, m2, or any other m3.

Collectors are driving the 1M prices. What a great way to park your money though!
Speaking of collectors driving up prices we haven't talked about S2000 for a minute.
2003 with 885 miles sold for about $89,000 CAD @ Mecum. Around double the original MSRP. https://www.s2ki.com/2018/01/11/885-...mecum-auction/
And because I heart BAT here is a low mile AP2: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2008-honda-s2000-6/

I don't see e30m3s doubling again in that period of time. 993s have stopped climbing. When the market craze hits a downturn cars will go with it.
I'd take the e30 regardless. To look at and to drive, as I will beat it far too hard to be an investment.

but still - good point.

993 and all other air cooled 911s have really flatlined since a big run up. I sold mine about 2 years ago now and the price hasn't changed much since then. I've noticed the same for other modern classic cars too like the NSX. Things have really taken a pause which is fine.
The problem with the ultra low mile E30 M3 and others is that you pay a huge premium and then you can't drive it very much or risk loosing a lot of money. It only works for collectors who have large selection of cars to choose from to spread the mileage around.
