I almost bought that white 1M but finances didn't work out at the time. Still regretting it...

But then I pop down to the garage and see my sporty and compact BMW and life's not so bad again.

Importantly, what would the RS collective choose: aircooled 911 + E30, or one 1M?

you can't get a decent air cooled 911 and an E30 for $60K!!! plus the upkeep on two old stallions will kill your bank acct....

at least the 1M can be driven four seasons....good luck driving an old 911 in the winter...no heat, no defrost.....

Do it porsche GT style - pay msrp and sell it a year later for more than you paid
Yeah but to get your first GT car you have to pay a $50K membership fee aka $50K over MSRP.....

Not NA
Not cable throttle

Not particularly attractive
They are cool, but the "raw" reputation they have is done much better by other cars.
I can't understand them costing double literally the best e46 m3 you can buy.
I really enjoy and appreciate Chris Harris's opinion, he is even holding on to a 1M. For a daily I would take a M2 over an 1M all day long, but I don't think it will really appreciate. The 1M looks quirky, but the car's footprint is small (hence nimble) and was produced in limited numbers. Car collectors are not the same as driving enthusiasts.......but you can be both.

The issue for me is that if you bought an old 993 or 1M with low kms, you will feel guilty putting KMs on it.....I have a friend who bought a mint 993 C4S with 20K kms to store it and bought another 993 C4S with high kms to drive.......

It's pretty simple, and they were actually less money than an E46 M3 was new. They are worth more money used because there were over 85,000 E46 M3s built globally compared to just over 6,000 1Ms. This is compounded by the fact that while about 1/3 of the M3s were North American, less than 1,000 1Ms were so it is even more scarce here. No other reason - the M2 is a mostly superior car.

People think that there are so many E46 M3s but you end up discounting so many different cars - over 40,000 had SMG, nearly 30,000 convertibles.

When it comes to ZCP 6MTs which are pretty comparable to a 1M, there are less than 1200 in North America, no wonder prices are rising. A Calgary dealer just sold a black on black ZCP for $35k in one day with 95k kms.

Its basically a brand new e30 m3. I don't see it being unreasonable. I don't appreciate low milage like some do either.

More like BaT is dictating market value. Willing seller, willing bidders/buyers.

I would have been surprised if it didn't eclipse $100K USD.

^ BAT makes sooooo much money nowadays it's not even funny. I was working for them for awhile, but I totally fell out of love with the site and its direction as soon as they went to basically an auction warehouse format. There's no facsinating barn finds or cheap affordable classics or ugly ducklings that need some love anymore.

Someone's going to have to confirm if this actually a good buy, but I'll just say it looks cleaner than most of the JDM Legacy's out there.

02 Subaru Legacy B4 RSK - Rev. D - $5800 - 125xxx km

Quote:
Up for sale is a super clean, twin turbo JDM 2002 Subaru Legacy B4 RSK sedan (sedan version of the GT-B wagon). This is the more desired Revision D version, with numbers of body, suspension and engine internal upgrades vs the previous generations, as well as a different tune that got rid of the infamous annoying VOD issue of the previous revisions.
Quote:
Auction grade 4 - the best grade you can get on a car with this age. Higher grades like 4.5 or 5 have vehicle age and mileage restrictions.

Clean body and interior. No accident history. No rust no leak - see the picture taken from under the car! All stock, never been messed around with random mods etc. No torque binding whatsoever, which is very very common among this model due to not taking care of the car and using tires that do not have even tread depth (google this issue if you want to know more).

Fresh MOTUL synthetic oil and filter change (done in Vancouver).
Brand new touch screen stereo with navigation and back up camera installed. (yeah I know the date isn't right... just haven't got around to set it yet. but everything works just fine.)
Timing belt water pump done at 94k.
Engine grounding kit.
Factory bilstein shocks.
Limited slip differential (LSD) in the back.
Factory aero body kit.
HID headlights, beam angle adjustable from a switch on the dash.
Factory MOMO steering wheel with paddle/button shifters on it.
Super comfy fabric seats that holds you firm in curves.
Strong brakes - STi 4 pot front brake. 290mm rear rotors.
Auto climate control.

124,100 KMs and have valid ShaKen at time of export (Japanese annual car inspection by the government)

having owned an 1M and E46 m3 - i d choose e46 m3 all the way

1M just didnt really do it to me - ya it was a good car but in terms of rawness and driving fun e46 m3 all the way

but to your question - aircooled 911 + e30 for sure - upkeep for these 2 may be more in the beginning but the satisfaction you get from driving either of these 2 beauts will be well worth the upkeep

Regarding the legacy, I drove a few of them, I was seriously considering one for a winter beater but yes they like to pop. Did you drive it? A lot of them have a valley of death but some don't. Some pulls way harder than others. You really have to test drive, and expect it to pop. You see so many for parts on cl due to bad motors

The real question nobody is asking, is what KIND of e30 we talkin about?
An e30 M3, or an 87 325e with auto?

Ya I was looking at them at one time and I think the issue was there isn't any aftermarket ecu for them. Have to get standalone with custom tune IIRC

They also have an oddball twin turbo motor with a million solenoids.

91 325is.

I'm throwing around the idea of downsizing the stable and getting something modern.

Contrary to Mickey's comment above, heat and defrost work excellent in the 911, and while parts are slightly more expensive on the 911 (with parts for the E30 being inexpensive) both are fairly easy to work on and DIY at home.

If you have the money, keep the Porsche, if not, I’m sure the e30 is 4/5 the car at 1/5 the price. It’s hard to say no to 50k though over 10k when you live here in Vancouver.

hmm

tough choice. an aircooled 911 or an E30.....

both of those are keepers. I still regret letting go of my well sorted out E30 325is coupe... money couldnt buy me back that car...

i'd probably feel the same about the 911.

if more modern route, look into another P car? 996, 997, Cayman?

those 996 C4S's are pretty good buys lately.

I considered a Legacy wagon, but then heard of how sensitive those engines are to Canadian fuel without a tune. The 1JZ VVTi by comparison seems to be a little forgiving even though I get detonation trying WOT.
