Good buy / justifiable? Or too expensive?

Looks to be a VERY well maintained E39 m5

new engine? I would bet my farm it is a new "salvaged engine" with no clear understanding how many KMs are on that motor. The guy seems like a douche anyways....

Turbo s badge kinda cheesy, pretty sure it's not an s or it would be a lot more

Also there's a Chrysler crossfire in the background so I'd seriously question this guys taste

tofu1413 01-29-2018 01:30 PM

996 Turbo S only came out in 2004 and 2005.
At least it's an easy job to remove the S badge and find some twist wheels. It also has RUF CF steering wheels, and look lowered.

A good PPI is always strongly recommended.

the 993 market seems to have peaked and is retreating slightly but 996 turbos are climbing fast.....two years ago this car would go for low to mid 30s......

To close the loop on the GTI I posted about a friend looking at. There were a few red flags with the car. It might have been fine but the communication with the seller was weird, they were not forthcoming about anything.

Went another direction and picked up this 2014 Focus ST, it ticked all the boxes: low km, service records, spotless carproof report, ST3 trim package (every single option available), it came with a set of brand new Nokian Hakka R2 winter tires on rims as well as summer tires on the stock rims. It really needs to be detailed, it was not cleaned up for the sale but the price came down because of that.

Ford Focus ST - $18000 (Pitt Meadows)
2014 Ford Focus ST
Car is in mint condition with only 48k km. The ST comes loaded with every option including navigation. I will also include 4 brand new snow tires. No accidents, clear title, all service records available and up to date.

Awesome. I looked at that one a bunch of times on Craigslist. Good pick up

cdizzle_996 01-29-2018 07:01 PM

I was looking at that one for a while, what did you end up paying for it if you don't mind me asking?

underscore 01-29-2018 09:53 PM

Fake? Or does being rebuilt really hurt it that much? 2016 RS for $33,900 https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/rds/...477197287.html

68style 01-29-2018 10:57 PM

^ That one was posted here before with some discussion, it's got the wrong parts on it and everything... stay away

What wrong parts? Why would icbc fix something with the wrong parts?

icbc didn't fix it.

icbc said..too expensive to fix and paid the car out. somebody bought it on the cheap, put it back together (with wrong parts, minus 1 lugnut) and got it inspected. When its getting inspected its for safety, not if its got the right parts on it.

now they're flipping it for profit.

320icar 01-30-2018 09:38 AM

I don’t know about ‘all the wrong parts’ but a bill for $4900 on a car that cost $51,000 would not make it a rebuilt. So obviously lying

If i remember correctly someone said it has the wrong windshield
Also it was probably $49,000 in damages they just forgot a 0:fullofwin:

underscore 01-30-2018 11:31 AM

How extensive is this "wrong parts" list? Did they put in an ST engine or something?

this is what I found from the previous discussion.

https://www.revscene.net/forums/6947...ml#post8873476

https://www.revscene.net/forums/6947...ml#post8874207

but what else was broken and where else did they cut corners?

320icar 01-30-2018 12:11 PM

The only things I noticed were missing lug nuts and a windshield from the wrong focus (not an RS) but there weren’t many photos in the ad. Maybe someone on here went to look at it?
