Going to go check it out again today. Apparently has a small ding near the rear fender as well. One headlight looks newer than the other. Probably cause of the accident.

Is there an unspoken rule that if someone post a good CL buy and someone from RS picks up car, there is a free coffee in there somewhere? :)

Or is posting good CL purely altruistic? Good luck to those interested.

Common decency, you SHOULD reward the poster but you shouldn't really EXPECT one

Just kidding folks ... no expectation.

I went to check this one out. Seems like a straight up guy he's had it for quite a few years now and it seems like it's only been serviced at dealerships. Paint is decent. Only thing is that it has one rust spot on the bottom of the trunk. Drove fine, it has a really short SSK. But overall clean car inside out.

It was listed at $8800. Apparently he's found a Venza that he's looking to purchase for his kid that's on the way that's why it's dropped down to $7000 now.

Any reason why you didn't pick it up?

I don't remember what the MY cutoff was but the early versions of this V8 had big oil consumption issues. That's just going off the top of my head when I was looking into them briefly.

edit: sorry, ignore me. looks like it was a Genesis R-spec with the 5.0L V8 that has the oil consumption issues pre 2012.

They're a decent place to spend some time inside. Switchgear is well laid out and easy to use but a bit plasticky.

Weak spots including vague steering and a suspension that's both floaty and crashy at the same time - this was fixed for the 2nd Gen since Lotus handled the tuning. 12+ models also have an 8 speed.

Not really

That's a 959. Porsche's answer to Group B Rally. Think Ford RS200 etc.

Certainly worth way more than $125,000 since that gets you a rusted out 912

Gerbs 02-05-2018 07:57 PM

Bought my first car. Looked at it twice over the weekend. Had bumper to bumper warranty and got a good price.

I think he/she saw the car before I posted it here. Try and stay classy.

Way more technologically significant than the RS200 or any Group B car for that matter.

So many new technologies went into this car in the early 80s and it's still the only car to ever win both the Paris-Dakar Rally and the 24h of Le Mans.

The car was extremely limited production (Porsche only made enough to meet homologation requirements) and was never sold in North America. Only several made their way to North America with Bill Gates buying 2. This car inspired Gates and other high-end car collectors to lobby for rules changes regarding ultra-rare cars (The "Show and Display" law), allowing them to pass through customs and be driven for limited purposes.

It has a short shifter on it and it feels super smooth. Another thing I noticed was that the car felt more spooky to rev out compared to the s2000. Maybe it's the torque steer?

It has LSD tho. Should help with that torque steer.
