I agree, the interior is not the greatest. If you add the carbon fiber interior trim and leather covered oem pieces it actually looks decent. The interior fit and finish and quality it actually pretty good. Still the 996 is light years ahead of the 993. Plus the 996 was the first 911 that the ventilation system that actually works!

I think the 996 market has bottomed, in 5yrs I bet 996s will be in the 40s range. Look at the pricing of 996 c4s and turbos......

I think they will be in the 10's as the entire worlds economy will have collapsed by then.
I'll be ready and waiting, and make the interior bearable with a set of gt3 buckets.

All black is the only 996 interior color scheme that won't make you ill. There's nothing lux about it. Like z3 hinted, 996 interior is easier to live in than previous gens. If a nice interior is important, the 997 is your entry point.

I was considering the 996 c4s when looking for m5s/m3s. They seem like good value In Canada. I have seen a few with about 100k kms manual for about ± 30k. The thing I have noticed about these 996's is you can put a lot of mileage on them and not loose much if anything.
Edit: On a side note I think the 996 Gt2 is one of the nicest porches. I somehow prefer it over 997.

I’ll chime in since this is my car.
While yes you’re correct it was originally silver I had it repainted and spent the extra cash so that it was professionally done job as I planned to keep the car forever. If I didn’t tell you, you wouldn’t be able to tell. Plans have changed now.

I originally posted the vehicle for sale to test the waters close to the end of summer last year for approx 1-1.5 months. I had a LOT of people wanting me to part with the supercharger, to trade with their cars but very little inquiries about the car cash sale. Literally only 1 showing and I’m pretty sure the guy was just a time waster as he showed up with another m3 lol.
This year I definitely need to sell it. As I mentioned plans have changed.. I currently have 3 vehicles and 1 needs to go. The wifey and I both drive suv’s and this one is just in storage. We’re looking into buying a place and possibly getting pregnant this year so I posted it up and motivated to sell.

For $20K I would rather have a clean 996.1 Vs a E46 M3. Dynamically, the 996 will destroy the M3 in every performance attribute. I love the E46 M3, it is an amazing car. However, from a toy perspective, imho, the 996 is the best bang for you buck performance car.

IMS bearing issues are overblown. Only 10% of cars had the issue. If it hasn't gone by now, you are fine......

drive them both back to back, one feels like a great solid well put together dynamic car and the other one feels like it has been made from a solid piece of granite. No other car feels like it.....

[Flame Suit On!]

I will go out on a limb and say that it may likely even be less than that, like 1%. The people who have their engines blown blame it on IMS but when a shop tears it apart, they find that the owner over-revved it like crazy and blew the motor. The ECU's data does not lie. I'd gladly buy another 996 that is well maintained.

That is very good to know. My dad has been wanting a 996 for when he retires... However I've been giving him the typical "uhhhhhh I've read some things online and..." answer. Going to look into this further.

Saturday was 996 day. Behind me was a 996 Carrera with full aero kit so looks just like a GT3. A few mins later I saw what I think was a real slate grey 996 GT2. Had aftermarket wheels so I am not 100% sure. Either way I couldn't help think about how the majority of the public wouldn't recognize it from a Carrera with a big spoiler.

I have been looking at manual 997s lately and they have stopped depreciating.

Custom wheels on a GT2 would definitely make me wonder if it’s legit... can’t be that many centre lug custom wheels on the market??

I can’t get past the blobby frog eyes on the 996, I would just pay the 997 premium if I was in the market.

Encourage him to get one. They are slowly creeping up in price, as with the 997.

They are pretty good cars, but I am biased; I owned one. The 996 was an excellent daily driver and is always fun and exciting. I wished that I hadn't sold mine and is definitely a regret.

I must be getting really old and crotchety...

Why does it grind my gears so much when I read a Craigslist ad that starts with "up for grabs is our_____"

If it's up for grabs, I'll just swing by and grab it then! What he means to say is "I'm selling my _____"

get off my lawn! If your ball lands in my yard one more time I'm going to confiscate it!

2003 Z4 2.5 - 5MT - 157xxx km - $5.5K (ex-Cali car from ages ago)

I believe it's the same M54b25 found in the e46 325, same typical m54 issues. Also is that rust behind the badge or the turn signal integrated with the badge? Good buy? Decent buy? Bad buy? (If that is rust, bad buy.)

Turn signal integrated into badge.

A fun Miata/S2K alternative with more power than the Miata!

I want a Z4 3.0is.

On paper comparison, from Wiki,

Depending on the MY, 02-05 came with the m54b30 (same engine in my 330ci), 225hp (unless it came with the ZHP variation bumping it to 235hp), 221ft-lb or tq. If the 3.0i is geared exactly the same as the 330ci, in a rolling 40km/h race, the BMW will win the initial pull but since the s2K has higher redline, it'll pull for so much longer, as you drop out of the power band.

In MY 06-08, the 3.0i came with the N52B30 (215hp, 184ftlb). Can't speak much about this engine, but according to wikimotors it has a 7K rpm (noticeably higher than the M54b30's 6K rpm)

It looks like the one that you want, aside from the M, is a 3.0si, also comes with the N52B30 but now with 261hp, 232ft-lb.

all 3.0i and 3.0si are between 3000lbs - 3086lbs (curb weight). I haven't driven either, but I think it'd be hard to compare. If you want lightweight, pedal to the metal 24/7, but also reliable go for the S2K. If you want torque, love the sound of an inline-6, and you can live with things breaking a lot, go for the BMW. I'd imagine the s2k is a lot more toss-able tho

besides the power window regulators, the valve cover leaks, cooling system stuff, those Z4's aren't too bad to own actually.
