Hey guys, sorry to take away from this thread a bit but I seek your guys' opinion for my next daily driver.

I checked this Civic out and placed a deposit. The caliber of this build is quite extensive, and while I was expecting the worst, I can tell it was well put together with attention to detail due to the brands and parts that were used. While not perfect (vacuum leak, needs a fender, and wheel refinishing), I get to start with a good base and continue the build from here to my liking.

However, while my roots will forever be with Honda, I also love my Old Mercs and BMW's. I can't resist this other deal that came up... my best friend's family heirloom, a 1983 Mercedes 300CD Turbo Diesel Coupe. It has 350,000 KM, but it is in remarkable condition. It drove so nice. It has high KM because they used it to drive to their vaca home in Vegas. It too needs a few things, but overall it is in good condition.

On one end, I already have the E34 as my "German cruiser", it is nearing completion. I feel another old German car may not be the wisest decision for reliability, but certainly for comfort and uniqueness. On the other, I love the feeling of Raw VTEC power...

My question is, what do you think would be the better daily driver?

I feel that if need be, the Civic would be much easier to sell. The Benz, reaching the 400k km mark, would sell for maybe $3k max? I believe this is a factor because I may need to downsize the fleet when I graduate and find my own place.
Both are priced similarly.
Both cars are true to my passions, I like both styles equally.
I commute roughly 60KM per day with work/school.

No kidding. We didn't get the 91 SER but this one was as close as we got. I had a friend who had a white one just like this one and modified it for autoX and had a blast. Factory LSD 2.0L SR20DE was awesome back then.

This white one has aftermarket clear side markers. I remember using Prelude ones on mine because no one made them for the NX at the time.
That being said, such a shame Nissan used such a garbage tranny in the car. 5th gear pop out was very common, and blown 3rd gears if you bumped up the power any bit.

I am still on a few SR20 mailing lists but most are dead as everyone is on the forums.

Fun fact, I actually had a 93 SER, one of only a few that was imported into Canada by mistake.

I'd get the Merc but I have 3 German cars... all of which are in the shop for repairs.

You have the e34 as your fun car. If you're juggling work, school + 60km commute, you need something reliable. Get the EM1. I have an EPB fender somewhere if you need / want. Do you know who did the rebuild on the B18? Is it OBD1?

buy the civic and put me in touch with the owner of the Benz. If I buy it, I'll call it "The Homewrecker" because my wife might finally run out of patience with me over my car addiction and throw me out of the house. On second thought maybe I should buy the Westfalia that was just posted up, then when she throws me out of the house, I can just go live in my car.

Thank you guys for the advice. You all made good points.

The W123 benz motor will be reliable, being that it is Diesel and well taken care of. They are known to last for over 1,000,000 miles. But I am starting to see everything else starting to age. Windows are super slow, AC doesn't work (and it takes R12...) and the transmission was shifting really hard (typical, but to solve this the vacuum lines to the transmission would have to be done.) Windows, locks are all vacuum operated.

As for parts for the Old benz, the W123 was mfg. by the millions and parts are still available and very cheap. It is 70's design, and pretty simple. I just know to expect things like blower motor, window regulators, turbo seals, vacuum hoses, gaskets etc. are showing their age, while the Civic feels like a typical millennial car.

It's just the explainable feeling of driving an old Benz. It's so unique, and I know It'd be the only one on the road... while the civic is just a typical silver civic, that's been done before. Whatever car I buy I'd be giving it my own treatment, but no matter what I do the Benz in my eyes LOOKS cooler, while the Civic DRIVES better.

I'm so torn Lol. I love the "Petroliscious, Bring a Trailer" vibe the Merc has, however I've always been into Hondas that are built right. I think since I have the E34 to fulfill the days where I'm feeling posh, it will make sense to have a Civic I can take to track days or Auto X events and actually enjoy having a large aftermarket support - and those who know what cars I've owned before will know that I am NOT used to that lol.

Yup. For RHD, I'd rather get a 4 dr with the B16. The EG9 SiR's have bucket rear seats.

I had a feeling I know who the owner might be, and it turned out to be exactly him.

I know the owner to a certain extent, and he is a fantastic guy that takes extremely good care of his prized cars. He is a 323 / Protege fan, and has another immaculate red LHD 323 Protege of the same vintage.

I have not seen this blue JDM car before, but I can almost guarantee that it is as good as it looks. Sure hope it'll go to a good home.

I prefer the 323 GTX hatchback that was sold here. But they’re all rusted out and beat down or the owners asking 2x it’s value
