Had an 05 Mazda 3 GT and can confirm it was rock solid and pretty fun to drive. I would buy one again.

No it wasn't me. I got scared away by the maintenance costs with these higher mileage European cars. Still looking!

Yeah I wonder if I have to do any oil changes... I burn so much oil that it's basically fresh all the time. Also tempted to just run conventional. 1Quart/1000km

Yah, I was keeping my eye on that 07 A3, S-Line, 2.0T. I figured if I did get it, I'd set aside at least $1K to get it to stage 0. DSG does scare me and it looked like timing belt wasn't done on it but for $4K ... still worth considering. It is basically a GTI ... no way you can get a 07 GTI for $4K.

came across a 2007 a3 s-line, 2.0T, DSG, 160k, tires and brakes at 50%, no reported issues. Asking for $5k. Thoughts?

When sitting in traffic on the way to work and the grocery store while using 10% of the cars potential? Does that even count as a driving "experience"?

No Android Auto/Apple Car Play, seats that are cushioned like crap, meh sightlines, not-so-nice interior compared to the Civic, rubber bandy powertrain...

The 10th gen Civic is a LOT better than the Corolla.

2006 330i Sportline

I'm in the market for E90 and this one seems to a decent deal, 146,000 kms, 6spd, newer clutch... the only catch is that it is from Alberta... 10 years ago, so it spent about 3 years there originally. He sent me pictures and there is minimal rust underneath.
This seems like a decent deal, am I wrong?

Rust? No thanks. It's also reaching the mileage where you should be refreshing all the fluids, overhauling the complete cooling system and then tack on whatever quirks an 11 year old BMW has (window regulators, door brakes, final stage unit etc).

Yes, but you took out half the stuff I mentioned when you quoted me and presented it as if non-car people won't care if it's a Civic or a Corolla (when you took out the stuff that they would care about).

I'd argue non-car people would notice and would care about a 20% power difference, especially when the car that makes 20% more power also gets 6% better fuel economy, too. Suspension and brakes, probably not, but if Toyota's trying to sell it based on safety and reliability, well ... The Civic is nearly as reliable and better brakes/suspension certainly contributes to better safety, does it not?

I quoted the parts that they wouldn't care about, which is why I said that's what they wouldn't care about. I didn't think it was that complicated to figure out.

At the level most people use their power, suspension and brakes (a fraction of what they're capable of) most people wouldn't notice the power and nobody would notice the brakes or suspension. As far as safety I doubt holding 0.03g more in the corners (0.82 vs 0.85) or taking 3 ft more to stop (183 vs 180) is going to make a lick of difference or be detectable by anyone. They're both 5* safety rated so no difference if you do actually hit something. The reliability is going to be more significant than any of that but even a "less" reliable Civic is still going to trump anything else in that segment.

At the end of the day they should just drive both and pick the one with the interior they like best because odds are they won't notice anything beyond that.

330's are hard to come by since they were only made for 1 year. Took me a while to find one when I was looking. At $8500 it's a pretty decent deal, only thing I'd worry about is the rust since it's lived in Alberta and then Whistler/Squamish where they still get a lot more snow than us here.

I think there was a red one for sale as well at $10k with lower miles a day or two ago

anyone know if a trade is possible? Say you own your car.. value is 20k and want to trade with someone that has a car of equal value. Does it have to be done as 2 separate sales or is there a way icbc will recognize it as a swap?

A trade is possible. All you need to do is fill the trade info and price on ICBC Transfer/Tax Form (APV9T) and both of you pay no tax.
