I've been kind of eyeballing Mercedes from the late 80s through mid 90s. I keep hearing they are bulletproof but does anyone have personal experience with one? Being used and over 25 years old, there are things to consider but are they pretty solid at their foundations?

Power-train is bulletproof, everything else is not. Interior plastics / woods are very fragile, electronics can be wonky, but are relatively simple to sort out. Expect things like blower motors, HVAC switches, HVAC blower motor resistors etc. to go.

Parts are also cheap for 80's / 90's Mercedes, and there are many aftermarket OE spec part mfgs to choose from. Owning these old Mercs, I spent a lot of time fixing small things in the interior (behind the dash, behind the door cards), rather than fixing mechanical issues. Ensure you use OEM fluids, and to keep up with maintenance.

$7500 for RSer's ! Anyone starting a family soon on here

So ... no luck on this 'Craigslist good buy' for $7500, no RS'er jumped at it?

Looks like it is now listed at the proper place for $6000 .

Ohhhhh yes you caught me +1 fucking internet for you. Jesus man, do you have anything else to do other than follow where I post my fucking mini-van, and for what price? I won't post in here again, is that what you want to hear? Forgive me, gatekeeper of the Good Buys Thread.

Are you just going to ignore the other two members that posted their cars in this thread, after me?

I lowered my price, because I went on a hike and connected with nature and restored my inner-chakras... my price was indeed not fair, and too high. The willow trees spoke to me.... $6000 OBO they said.

I know what you're alluding too. Pointing out to others, a member who has priced high initially, and is lowering his price now because no one "bit". Whatever, I am no professional at pricing 2001 Odysseys. I looked at the market and priced accordingly. Now I lower price until it sells. Like I'm the first person to fucking do that... lol.

edit: Van has just sold above my asking price. I will miss it dearly.

Agree with Topsycrett

Current w124 wagon issues:

Herp derp HVAC - the center vent doesn’t blow air. AC works when it feels like it.

Door locks all lock and unlocks when it feels like it

Rubber hoses goes bad

Rubber bits go bad, replaced water pump because of a leaky rubber O Ring.

All the wood are cracked somehow. Not sure how

Clear coat peeling on hood and roof.

Other wise it’s been a pretty fun around town car. The earlier cars with the single cam inline six won’t have the electrical problems like the later model twin cam inline six cars. The late cars were installed with bio degradable engine harnesses. If it hasn’t been swapped, it’ll be an adventure to buy a new harness and do a swap.

The 124 chassis cars were handsome, especially the coupe. Can be had for cheap and in decent shape in most cases. Will be a nice entry level classic ish Mercedes to get into.

These two are like the most common problems for old Mercs. New, fresh wood is like $600 USD a set on Ebay. AC is also R12 for old Benz so conversion will need to be done to R134.

The HVAC controls are all Bosch however and new resistors / controls can be bought new on Rockauto for cheap.

and ps. I am no longer purchasing that W123 I was going to buy. I went to check it out a second time, the transmission is hard shifting and literally every seal is leaking from the engine to the differential. So keep an eye out for this too, Oil leaks are ok with me, but if its an old leak... literally everything around the subframe starts to look so gross. The trans was leaking as well and because of this, the car hard-shifted. So far the only old Benz I have seen with this problem, but the owner never addressed this problem and I definitely saw transmission work being needed in the near future.

^^^ You don't believe in the idea, 'No PR is bad PR'? I gave your posting a free bump in this thread and that's how you thank me?

Edit - so it's sold, do you think it was because of the attention I brought to it?

68style 07-09-2018 10:41 PM

108,000KM TRD Tundra, but seller states as Rebuild title. This seems like a good buy, I'd look into what the seller means by "rebuild". Hopefully it's an error and this would be a good buy. These are priced above 10k usually and have triple the km.

hud 91gt 07-10-2018 01:34 AM

When I try and get the contact info for the tundra above I get an error. Can some PM it to me if they can see it? Need truck now.

4000km in almost 30 years. Could be a fake ad though

Almost certainly fake. The sign in the background of the photo shows a phone number with a 625 area code.

Strong post! Didn't get the memo that using homophobic slur is so 70'ish? And that it reveals a person's level of ignorance and lack of intelligence more than anything. Keep it up.
