I don't think anything is really common with 1st gens, I've never seen two with the same setup. Personally I'd probably keep the original drivetrain unless something fails, even then I'd only want to put something else in if I could do it without cutting up the car at all since it looks just so mint.

I could imagine they're a nightmare to own. Also, 7000 pound towing capacity doesn't seem like a lot for a V10 Diesel? Correct me if I'm wrong.

It's not the engine holding it back, rather the chassis. Chassis has more to do with capacity then power plant in my opinion.

As TJ said, it's the chassis that's the limiting factor. Go build and price a diesel 2500 up to a 5500 and have a look at the rated towing differences; same engine across the board.

That dude is drunk. The chances that thing breaks $10k are close to nil - $18,500 is absolutely full retard.

The kit alone is worth 2-3k so 18.5 isn't out of the question if it was all original. An RS member's 325is with the same M-Tech II kit sold for 12k USD recently on BaT

As others said, the chassis has a lot to do with it. My 3.0 V6 turbo diesel is rated to tow 7500lbs.

Lol... 12k USD = 15.5k CAD. That's still 20% less than this one at 18.5. IMO that's a huge difference.

As it was my car, and without knowing anything more than what's in this shitty CL ad, mine is arguably worth more given it's a two owner car with records to new, no needs, and everything was OEM.

I don't doubt that your car should've sold for more. I am merely illustrating the fact that sub-20k E30's aren't unheard of.
