We'll see what happens...I bet I will regret it but I have to put the wife before the wif3y otherwise my ass might end up like George Soros...but way way poorer. :alone:

Psst. I'll buy it if you take firstborns as payment :badpokerface:not mine tho

I’ve found it really easy to live with. Best description I agree with is it feels like a mini gtr. The dsg is smooth in comfort and the shifts are quite fast in sport and race. I like that you can take the tc all the way off. The launch control is really impressive for a stock car imo....it gets off the line really fast. I’m so used to a 3rd pedal that it does make you feel a bit useless at time but when you spend most of your time in city commute traffic it’s a great car to be inside with all the creature comforts like climate control, heated seats etc yet still have the absolute to switch to a more sporty mode when things allow. Feels like a jack of all trades in that sense...doubt it will be the best at any one thing but if you want a sporty, practical car that can kind of do it all then I think it’s a great vehicle. Also doesn’t hurt that they seem to take well to mods which is good if you need a bit more “Hmph”. Honestly the part that impressed me the most with the golf is the ride quality and how tight the chassis felt. The ride in comfort is plush enough to iron out all the shit city street potholes. I was jealous too because I spent good money on Ohlins for the evo and the golf feels better right out the box. Overall I feel like you get a lot of value for your money. But if I had to do it all over again I would likely have paid a bit more and just gone with the rs3.

Darn. I was gonna see if you wanted to trade for a 2018 Golf R :QQ:

Badhobz 01-11-2019 08:46 AM

is your DSG complete dog shit like my DSG on my 2017 VW sportwagen ? the damn thing feels like its on its last legs sometimes. It lurches engaging into 1st and occasionally does it with a big clunk.

Gerbs 01-11-2019 09:18 AM

Isn't RS3 like 55% more than a Golf R?

I don't like it personally but I don't think there is a mechanical issue with it. I call it DogShitGearing or DefinitelySlippingGears. My wife's Alltrack is much nicer with no signs of any weirdness. I think it's just because the Golf R is made to be kind of aggressive like #becauseracecar as it feels exactly as you describe.

R. Mutt 01-11-2019 10:30 AM

lol @ dogshitgear...never heard that before. Nah I haven’t had any issues with mine. Shift really well. One of my friends said his was slipping but he had a bunch of power mods and I really dont know how well the day takes to extra power in the long term.

white rocket 01-11-2019 01:26 PM

It's just the nature of it being a dual clutch system. I drove a Ford Focus that felt the same. Like it was slipping then it engages. Not wrong with it, just feels different if you are not used to it.

Now that I have given it such a marvelous review, anyone want a 2018 Golf R DSG in Indium Grey with 4,300kms for $40,000?

Arguably a good deal but self promotion is weaksauce and my CL ad expired so fail away if need be.

Glad he noted that he has put a fresh oil change in a basically dead motor.

If you want a project Porsche, get a 996 with a blown motor. Those go for like 10-12k and are fucking awesome for the money.

(yes, I'm bias)

vitaminG 01-12-2019 12:18 AM

Or for 4500 buy the boxter and put a carrera motor in it and have an awesome mid engine hotrod

I’d LS swap the hell out of any blown engined Porsche. Still waiting for a rust free 914 to show its face. Ha. Rust free, lol.

Could be a decent deal if the work was done proper and if bought for a decent price.
