Bolt-on parts wouldn't scare me (assuming no structural damage) but after taking a good look at the Tiburon anything welded or painted I wouldn't be keen on. Granted I don't know when the car was rebuilt but everything behind the drivers front fender was replaced on that side and (badly) sprayed over the blue that the replacement panels were originally with what looks like a single coat. The paint has worn back through to the blue in a few places and there's a lot of rust along the seams of the drivers door sill. Stuff inside the rear fender was obviously crunched in the accident and not fully straightened out.

Not every rebuilt vehicle is going to be this bad but I'd look a lot closer and not buy it at night if I was going to actually drive it.

The swirl motor is easy, at least on the OM642 they put in these. If it dies just pop in a resistor and you're good to go. Mine had it replaced under warranty shortly before I bought it so it'll be fine for a long time. What'll screw you is all the janky shit Chrysler put on the rest of the vehicle, other than my own fuckups the only problems I've had have come from stuff that Merc had nothing to do with. Primarily electrical gremlins, those have left me stranded twice so far.

That's a really good deal for dealer pricing, my first reaction was "I bet it has some dec's on it" but the ad says no accidents.

Fired up the good old Craigslist and found a couple of unicorn Subaru's.

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/van...801719576.html

2008 Subaru Forester XT, final year of this generation

Automatic transmission though.

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/van...800708952.html

Or a pre face lift in stick shift

Not the best prices for both

EDIT

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/bnc...791335999.html

Here's the Spec B that's been posted a couple of times here. I think it went down in price?

Have you considered any jdm SUV? A diesel 80 series or Prado would be pretty badass. Could probably find within your budget easily

I won’t do RHD. But I would be all over it other then that. 4Runner is great but they always are way out of budget.

I feel like that's a bit bigger than what he was looking for.

The only diesels I can think of are the Grand Cherokee and Liberty both can tow 3500lbs.

I believe my rx400h can tow 3500lb. You'll get about 10L for 100 and they are hovering around the 10 to 15k mark.

3500 is getting to the top end of some of those "lighter duty" vehicles no?

not somthing you want to be doing all time time, towing its top end ability.

In the 20k I've driven mine:
- Security system freaked out and refused all keys for 2 days, then went back to normal for no reason
- Starter trigger wire rubbed through on an A/C line and blew the fuse (to their credit there was at least a code that came up for that circuit)
- Drivers rear caliper locked up after changing pads (common issue)
- Front wheel bearings replaced
- Front diff bushings replaced (common issue)
- Front struts and springs replaced
- Rear axle seals replaced
- Front balljoints replaced
- Glow plugs and module
- Oil filter cap broke, causing low pressure warnings
- Belt tensioner pulley bearing was shot
- Rerouted the CCV so the intake doesn't plug up with oil or leak and fry the swirl motor
- CD changer fried from reconnecting the battery, so it tried to read the discs 24/7 and killed the battery
- Too much tire spin on ice made the AWD system freak out and disable the lockers

On top of that stuff common issues are the fuel tanks rusting (only on the diesel, you can swap in a plastic gasser tank), injector seals leaking and causing a mess, the oil has to be poured half in the filter housing and half in the fill cap every change or you'll hurt the bearings, if the oil cap is put on the wrong way oil will leak everywhere, if oil is spilled during filling the alternator will get fried (you can get a shield for that), if the wrong oil is used the DPF will clog, it takes like 10L of specialty oil (but you can go 10k between changes), it takes fancy coolant and a shitload of that too, they take ages to warm up (but the cabin has electric heaters which is nice), if someone puts gas in it and drives away you may as well write it off, the oil cooler seals can leak which is about $5 in parts but days and days of labour, you need a fancy dipstick and a way to read trans temp to check the fluid level, you have to empty the trunk to drop the spare tire, the bulbs in the console controls are soldered in so it's a hassle when they burn out, the turbo actuator can burn out, the sunroof vents like to clog, the cooling fan is hydraulic and run by the power steering system but the dealer will sell you the wrong fluid which will blow it all up, the stereo works with an amp in the back over CANBUS so upgrading the stereo is pricey and annoying, the uConnect bluetooth can only remember 32 numbers and you have to manually enter them all, on the highway it won't like cruising faster than 120-130km/h (but it will do that over anything without a fuss, even up the Coq), probably more that I can't remember right now.

They do have some big perks (power, economy, comfort, optional low range and triple locked from the factory, etc) and the diesels are pretty much the only vehicle in their category, but this thing has required more attention than all my other vehicles combined so if you want something you can just change fluids in and drive I'd look elsewhere. If you don't mind doing your own research and DIYing a couple things a year then it's not too bad.

A diesel is also the only 3rd gen (WK) Grand Cherokee I'd own, the other motors are pretty much junk in my mind (3.7 is gutless, 4.7 doesn't last, 5.7 likes to drop valve seats and blow up). Apparently the later (09-10) 5.7 is much less prone to blowing itself up but the difference in fuel costs vs the diesel is massive. With my lift and big tires I get ~12L/100km, leaving it stock you can get down to the single digits and 600+km to a tank, the 5.7 uses about double that.

The Grand Cherokee can tow 7200lbs with the diesel. I've towed somewhere around 5000lbs with mine and couldn't even tell it was there.

Woah! Long writeup. Thanks Underscore! You make it sound super scary. Haha maybe I’ll save for an X5 35d.

As for everyone else, not really looking for suggestions as I’ve analyzed every vehicle to death. Let’s just post some deals. That’s what this thread is all about! I do appreciate the suggestions though.
