Paint it white and black have some Japanese characters on the driver's door and it'll be worth 10k easy!

You are correct sir.
I can't believe $11,500 for that. Sure, it's clean, but it's a slushbox SR5 model.

And to think, I paid $6k for my mint, low mileage 86' GT-S back in 1992. That was a fun car to hoon around in.

It's just the seller trying to capitalize on a buyer who thinks they're buying an AE86

Just like this guy who, i'm assuming, is trying to get someone who thinks his car is a 190e 2.3-16v

Still AE86 chassis code.

$11k is still retarded though. 5-6 for a really clean SR5, maaaaybe. They are getting rare and the fanboi tax is stupid high. Guys are taking what they can get and the bottom feeders are preying.

The chassis code "AE85" is used to describe the 1500 cc RWD model from the range. In classic Toyota code, the "A" represents the engine that came in the car (3A series), "E" represents the Corolla, "8" represents the fifth generation (E80 Series) and "5" represents the variation within this generation. The Levin has fixed-headlights, and the Trueno has retractable headlights, both came in hatchback or coupe variations.

The AE85 was not sold in North America. The leading characters in the VIN do not always use the same characters as the chassis code, so some less powerful variants of the AE86 (with the 1.6 L engine) were sold there with an AE86 chassis code on the build plate in the engine bay but with AE85 in the VIN

Anyway - i think you are right.... still too much..

westopher 02-26-2019 05:31 PM

And MANUEL?! Thats a good find.

snowfarmer 02-26-2019 07:11 PM

that is a good deal for that low km S5 well optioned like that. If that thing had been around in the fall when I picked up the new winter car, I'd have picked that up (assuming it didn't have any major dec's).

Do these newer v8s have the crazy timing chains from the older s4s?

jpark 02-26-2019 10:50 PM

^nope, the s5 v8's are actually quite reliable

Unfortunately after all those issues are fixed (if you're not doing it yourself) it'll be closing in on $7000, which would be considered "fair" at best for a BMW with 231k km.

It's been up for awhile - been thinking about grabbing it, doing a clutch and reselling but at the end of the day the market for a 200k km+ BMW is pretty small. I wouldn't want to sit on it for months.

If I already owned it like the seller, I'd toss a clutch in it and ask 7k with a receipt for the work. Would be an easier sell.

Sent to a family member. They’ve been looking for a manual s5 for years. He doesn’t like the colour but I think he wants to see it anyways

tofu1413 02-27-2019 08:49 AM

those S5's seem great on paper, stick, AWD, V8...

but they seem a bit numb to drive. (lacks the drama of the V8's of the same era imo)
