These are starting to drop I'm noticing, seen a couple popping up here and there now, seems like they're creeping into decent buy territory for a clean rocket. Take these over a used STI anyday, and I love the STI.

^^ I don’t think I’d ever buy one used from a dealer. The owners for these cars are extremely polarized. Either they treat it like a 1 of 5 gt250 California or whatever and it never see’s rain, or they treat it like me.

I’d definitely want to meet the owner and get an idea how’s its been treated.

Edit: that being said if anyone’s seriously interested, send me a PM and test drive my car anytime

very true. They're not agile and feel too heavy. Driven a manual one before and I thought I would want an auto in a car with that size and purpose.
Still want a manual 850i though... :drunk:

Did Ford ever recall the HeadGasket ?

Of course. All 2016, most 2017 and I think only 2018 of they show symptoms. Cold pressure test over I think 4+ hours. I’f it leaks down less than 5% you just get the HG (I was under 2% which is normal). Any more and they replace the cylinder head as well.

I believe if it gets traded in to ANY dealer, they’re required to have it replaced if ford never did (might br wrong but pretty sure).

good rule of thumb - but in the case of that CRX I'd def be buying the clean body, and the obvious love the owner has put into the car - not the motor.

tossing in a freshened motor in isn't a big deal - good time to put your touch on it.

repairing a rusted out honda? hell no

twitchyzero 02-27-2019 10:24 PM

if down the road you could pick up a Germany-built, rally-inspired Ford for 15k...that would be a lot of riot for the dollar

Those RS's are becoming seriously tempting. They don't seem to have a lot of ground clearance though.

It’s a 91...I’m pretty sure at this point 95% of these cars are burning oil.

I daily drive mine - honestly, the suspension (which is a separate issue) is sufficiently stiff that clearance isn't much of an issue.

You just learn to back into spots so that you don't take out the front bumper when parking.

Cheap runabout. Too bad it's not a GT but close enough.

BMW 128i with a bit of high mileage and needs maintenance.

Modern day E46 with out the overly inflated price.

Price dropped further down to $3800

Just went to look at this - good candidate for a race car or fun beater. Engine seemed strong. Bodywork is too rough for me though. 25 footer.

That's the great thing about these newer BMW's.

Once they are this age/mileage, their value becomes equivalent to scrap metal prices...nobody can/wants to consider taking a chance on them.
A true "disposable car".

I wonder if any of those fancy features still work...

snowfarmer 03-03-2019 01:34 PM

Buy the whole car for the price of the hardtop, sell the low km (113,000 km) engine/trans and a bunch of the other parts in decent shape and scrap the rest.

Mazda Miata 1990 - $1000 (Grant Street)

https://images.craigslist.org/00Z0Z_...j_1200x900.jpg

I am selling my 1990 Mazda Miata (red), which I have owned and loved for the past 10 years. The body is in great condition. We had it professionally painted a couple of years ago when the original paint was peeling and chipped. However, the undercarriage needs significant work: there are three weld joints on the bottom of the car that have been rusted out and need to be fixed *before* the car will be able to pass her safety inspection in BC (and get insurance). We recently moved to BC and had the Miata shipped from Ontario (where it was insured). We discovered the issues with the undercarriage when the Miata failed her safety inspection here in BC. The brake line also needs to be repaired. Please refer to the attached photographs for more details on the state of the undercarriage. You will notice that the rest of the undercarriage (aside from the above mentioned) are relatively rust-free. The windshield also needs to be replaced due to a crack. Aside from these issues, the car runs great – the transmission and engine are in good working order. I have so enjoyed this car over the past decade and am hoping that someone with the know-how can get her back on the road.

And if you get in an accident, and ICBC can prove that you have been in our province more than 6 months, you will have no insurance at all. They will look into it, and they will sue you for damages and medical costs. Literally, it can bankrupt you for life to not be properly insured.

The States is much different and varies by state their insurance laws

I wonder how much the repairs will cost in total. You could potentially end up with a low-mileage that's worth quite a bit of money if the repairs are done. It would be a shame to scrap an otherwise clean looking Miata... I guess east coast Miatas should probably be avoided.

This seems suspiciously cheap. It's listed as a clean title car, and it at least has BC plates in one of the pictures so it might be legit. Would make a nice beater.
