What's wrong with these R's?

They’re getting old and many of them have high miles and deferred maintenance (not that a lot of other used cars for sale don’t also have deferred maintenance) with some pretty spendy parts required (4C struts are ~$800/corner) and probably need to be replaced, the awd transfer case on these is known to fail.

It was an expensive high performance car when new with the maintenance and running costs of an expensive car that don’t get cheaper just because the car sells for $10K used. Really no different than one would find with a used BMW/Audi/MB.

For some reason I always though Volvos were pretty solid cars, I guess just not the R's.

whitev70r 03-15-2019 08:07 AM

Definitely solid, known for safety, luxury, European ... but high maintenance. The R has a lot of features eg. C4 suspension as mentioned and the more features & tech, the more things can go wrong & the more expensive it is to replace. Pay to play.

Needs some work but price is reasonable depending on what exactly needs to be done to the tranny. I love these things.

With those seats, this would definitely be the cool uncle who took you to the strip club when you turned 18.

Price is on the higher side but ticks a lot of boxes for being a good all-rounder. Says no low ballers which seems to imply you can make an offer and end up with a good deal.

That’s only if you don’t change your oil in time and your chain tensioner fail. People that own these cars don’t maintain them plus they’re shittily built to begin with.

Isnt that the one with 200k miles or sth. And if you ask the seller for the mileage they just rudely reply you?

Edit: Agree with TouringTeg, these are probably 2 very huge determining factors when buying cars.

1) No mileage listed? Probably high
2) No mention of "no accidents/claims"? Probably claims

TouringTeg 03-18-2019 11:53 AM

Car sales pet peeve #17: Sellers who purposely leave off the mileage.

ssjGoku69 03-18-2019 12:00 PM

What makes the 7th gen accord clutch job cost so much? aren't most clutch jobs around the $1k mark for Honda?

SkunkWorks 03-18-2019 12:02 PM

LOL. Fuck that guy. He sent me an e-mail back in January after our exchange saying car was sold trying to rub it in.

Here's his asinine replies for those who missed it last time:

the m3 badge on the dash tells you everything you need to know about the seller.

Knockoff BMW mats, non original interior with no mention of it, Federal 595 tires, arrogant seller.
Not a sweet combo.
