Funny, I just had this convo with a few friends over dinner. Here's my tier list in terms of compliance over straight up performance (so fun daily driver spec). Best to worst

1. KW CS on FK8 CTR
2. OEM FK8 CTR
2.5 HFP Suspension on FA5 Civic Si
3. Bilstein B8 + H&R Race springs on E46 330ci
4. Extends on FK8 CTR
Tein Flex Z on CSX-S
Ohlins R&T on 996 GT3
5. Racelands on E36 M3
6. STA XTA on E46 M3
7. KW V3 on 964
8. Silvers on F10 535i
9. KW V1 on R53 Mini (the old one)
10. BCR on MK7.5 Golf R

I think my friend ruined his car imo, cause I remember what stock felt like. While body roll is now controlled and it looks good lowered, it's a bit too crashy for my liking - rides worse than racelands imo (could be weight diff). The car handles decently well, but my rating is based on compliance and comfort, with performance into consideration. All coilovers definitely handle better or as good as OEM FK8 suspension, but all of these coilovers aside from the KW CS, feel too meh for me to switch out of the OEM FK8 suspension.

I think I'm due for a suspension refresh in the FK8. It's not shot, but it's definitely worn and I can tell that it's much worse at 120K than what it was at 50K (duh). If I had it my way, I'd replace with Bilstein B8 + springs and call it a day. I don't have the budget for good coils, and I'd rather do shock + springs over budget (sub $3K) coils. Unfortunately, there's no Bilstein application for the FK8.

I was curious about Silvers because they just appeared out of nowhere and was unsure whether they were up to snuff or not.

At 120K, yes, time to refresh the suspension and wear items such as motor and transmission mounts.

A good spring goes a long way. I was in the Swift camp because they make quality springs back in the day. I'm not sure if it's still the case, but Swift replacement springs is a huge thing for the BC coils world. The other choice is Hyperco but I'm not sure Hyperco makes street springs.

Swift springs on stock shocks is a horrible idea on the type r. Way too stiff. Idk why people pair springs onto stock shocks.. seriously.

It's crazy to me that's not a 5k car, but it is what it is these days. Looks well kept at least.

Even 2017/2018 pricing would have been 9-10k? Definitely not 5K.

For ref, my first E46 was a 6-7K car iirc.. and that was a gigantic POS hahah

Yeah but its 8 years older than 2017. The idea of things like civics and Camrys appreciating is fucked.

The fact that any new car is 40k for anything sporty drove these things up cuz no one can afford anything anymore. That's the only reason these 5k cars are 9k cars.

I don't think there are THAT many ppl the long for a 20 year old civic, but a new Si is 40k before taxes.

Whatcha gonna do

Yah, there is a market for $10-12K used cars, then there is the next level used car, maybe $20-25K price point, not everyone is going to drop $40-50K down for a new car, what are your options out there?

CSX Type-S is really rare compared to the Si... not a lot of differences, but they always have a premium on them... I would suspect a similar Si would be in the $8-9k range asking

^ yah, there is always the Acura label tax over Si. Si's are all over the place, CSX type S is considerably rarer.

Weird thing is that people will buy the Acura CSX type S and then put a red Honda logo on it.

As comparions, I mean people can ask for whatever they want but ...

2009 Honda civic si sedan, 140K kms, CA$15,980 at a dealer though

^^ so how reliable are they, does the engine blow up mysteriously like all other Korean engines. Too bad the new ones just look weird, it's not as cool and aggressive looking as the original one. It just looks too round and bubbly.
