Get a 335i and put a tune on it. Fits all your criteria sans v8 motor. But who cares, its making as much power with a tune anyways... As for maintence, purchase a BMW maintence package. Family members across the border always do this. Its about 3k up front but it pays for itself real quick.

I have a 335i with a tune and it pulls strong. Faster than most cars on the road. My next car however would be a R34 ^^

meh my buddy had a 2008 335i convertible, he had a JB4, intakes, downpipes, etc on it... the car wasn't very fast. I know the convertible is a bit heavier than a coupe but still. It gave you the impression that it was fast when the boost came on, but he could barely get it into high 12's, mostly 13's at the track.

The convertible is almost 500lbs heavier than the coupe. That much extra weight will slow the car down considerably.

My 335i is fast enough to keep me satisfied for now. It certainly is faster than most of the cars out there while having the right balance of comfy and fun to drive at the same time.

No LSD though so it doesn't meet OP's criteria.

no! I've put nearly 30,000km's on mine and never had it break down or leave me anywhere.

A good non abused daily driven E60 M5 makes a FANTASTIC car. However gas is a bitch, and finding a one owner babied M5 that has not been driven to 8250RPM everyday is a bit hard.

I'm one of the biggest Ford haters out there but I would be tempted at looking at a Fiesta ST
All these people suggesting rx-7's, m3's, 335i are impractical. Gas costs, Insurance rates, Maintenance costs = kiss of death.

GTI, STI, BRZ, Fiesta ST, Toyota 86b are some good options

i vote against the gti. worst car i have ever owned. the longest i ever went without something going wrong was 2 months before i had to limp it back to the dealer or call the tow truck. i even had to warranty the hood hinges because they seized up and bent the hood when i was trying to close it... wth??? i got rid of it for my mustang and i haven't looked back.

It's an M car. They're meant to be driven to 8250 rpm everyday. :hotbaby:

lol @ no LSD. bmw has one of the most advanced traction control systems in the world. no need for LSD. the system mimic's the effects..

dared3vil0 i cant believe i forgot to mention this before but you should look into the manual transmissions found in the newer mustang gt's. theyre a chinese made unit that is pretty shitty. lots of people are having problems with these transmissions so its definitely something you want to keep in mind.

I would not suggest the 2015 STI

It has a beautiful interior thats beyond recognition from the older gen's.

It now comes with EL headers, and has a very consistent power range, as opposed to a spike.

The wheels are factory forged, light as tits, and they look great.

There's a very fancy LCD screen in the middle.

Now,

The car itself is very nice, but driving a hawkeye, or even the new gen's, you'll realize this generation got even tamer, it's much more controlled, it has a DCCD (diff torque f&r), and the steering rack ratio is even shorter. This can be a pro or a con, depending on how raw you like your car.

The cons are,

Personally, the car looks like a bag of dicks from the rear, the front could be mistaken as an evo, and the side flares, rear fenders don't flow with the car.

The same EJ engine is being used, as opposed to the WRX which uses the new F series engine. You can argue why change a formula that isn't broken, but look at the real time fuel consumption as opposed to cars in the same class, a V6 camry or V6 accord pumps out just as much power using much less fuel.

The steering is sloppy, the bushings are sloppy, and you can feel the car not turning with you. This all can be fixed with soon to be released poly bushings, much stiffer mounts, and pitch stop.

The seats suck.

I've test drove the 2015 STI, and the interior was the biggest thing that stood out to me, the car mechanically was kind of disappointing.

I compared this review to my car (12 STI), 06 WRX, 04 STI, 02 WRX, '98 STI, and I can safely say, this is the tamest, most family oriented STI you can buy, right next to an '08 hatchback STI.

In the 40k price range, I would look at used cars like an M3, older STI's, newer EVO's, 135i's, Boss 302's, and if you're lucky, C63's.

If you want a new car, I'd get the FR-S or BRZ hands down, it is one of the best stock handling cars you can really purchase, do not let the 200HP mark fool you, these are fast as fuck if driven by the right person.

I would do unspeakable things for an M235i. How much more expensive are they than an STI?

The convertible is actually a LOT heavier. M3 coupe is around 3580lbs and a M3 convertibe is 3900lb... go figure.

An M235i is almost 60k with tax...

Anyone able to recommend a great Subi dealer? I want to test drive a 2015 WRX and STi, preferably with an extremely knowledgeable salesperson. one who can answer technical questions. Any recommendation?
