I took this from the VCMC signup link;

"$260 CAD + GST for first-timers and new novices. Fee includes 1-on-1 instruction."

So I can sign up? Or do you still want people to PM you? I've had one track day at ORP, and 8 or 9 Autocross.

IMO you are not exactly “brand new” if you been to ORP without any incident. Question is what group/club were you with when you went to ORP. AFAIK, very few clubs host event with instructor at ORP so chance of you driven with instructor check ride is low. It is wise to have some trained instructor ride along with you to correct your mistake / bad habit. Track driving is a never ending learning experience. Mistake / bad habit is good to be corrected when you are still fresh.

You can also PM me if you want more info.

westopher 03-24-2015 11:38 AM

Kchan is not with VCMC. He is an organizer for the FFDxTSS track days.
Also, anyone going to be at mission this Saturday?

I went with Hooked on Driving. I had an instructor with me every time I was on track.

Ohh. My mistake.

Yeah I could see how it would be made, as they both have a 26th track day date, however VCMC is doing the Mission day, and FFDxTSS is at the ridge, which by the way have done a lot of work repaving and maintenance over the summer. Can't wait to check it out, although I won't get there until July.

I can't speak for kchan, but if you are interested in the Mission track day with VCMC, by all means, feel free to sign up with an instructor. If you include in the registration notes / motorsports experience section that you have done a track day at ORP, VCMC will likely try to match you up with a more senior instructor.

v67gsr 03-24-2015 12:05 PM

Am I qualify as a VCMC instructor? ;)

I will defer the decision to our chief instructor (aka. Uncle Joe). :hotbaby:

v67gsr 03-24-2015 12:13 PM

Last time I met with Joe (VCMC track meeting) he referred me as a dare devil who love the excitement on PR. I guess I am out of the question.

main reason for the FFDxTSS track days i need a PM ahead of time is because we do not have a bunch of instructors available so if you let me know ahead of time it would give me time to find an instructor that is qualified to instruct you the day of

but usually if you have a track day, couple events of experience already, I only will sit in to see if pass you if you can go solo in group b/c or not

this this this. VCMC is great for getting users started. FFDxTSS track days cater more to those interested in just having a lapping day at a great price
either way, you cannot go wrong with either because we are technically same group of car freaks wanting to have a good time

Not exactly track day related, but pretty disappointed the VCMC Velocity Driving school is fully booked. Booked the day off work, and by the time I was able to get my schedule, it was full. Ugh

Have you placed yourself on the waitlist yet, Hud?

I agree that it's unfortunate how fast Velocity tends to get booked up. To ensure the quality of instruction, I think the instructor-student ratio is typically only 1:2 or at most 1:3. When you factor in the total instructor pool size, the lot size, and the space you need for practice exercises, you can see why each offering only has 30 +/- spots.

If you already have the April 11 date booked off from work, another option is to sign up for volunteering at Velocity. You're gonna be put to work instead of getting seat time to do the drills. But what the cone chasing does is, it allows you to see first hand what kind of exercises a driver needs to be good at, how those exercises are done, and the typical mistakes and how drivers improve upon them over the course of the day. Throughout the day, you'll also pick up bits and pieces of advice the instructors dole out to their students. As the final icing on the cake, you get free lunch, some free runs, and $50's worth of event credits towards a future event, so it's definitely something to think about. I think they are still short on 1 or 2 volunteers, so it might be something for you to think about.

The other option is, the 2nd Velocity driving school is happening on Aug 29. Personally, I'd always prefer the spring Velocity school because it is earlier in the season, but if the mid-season one is the one you can make it to, then that's the one you want to sign up for.

I am not the boss, man. You gotta talk to Yarks. But if you want to help us chase cones, I can probably hook you up.

belaud 03-24-2015 03:42 PM

yay more cars to party with my teins kchan-chan :toot:

hud 91gt 03-24-2015 04:24 PM

Hmmm $50 credit eh.

Edit: Registered for the waitlist

Just realized the Z only has lap belts. Curious if this will be an issue. I emailed the head guy Yarko. Guess we'll see.

dared3vil0 03-26-2015 10:13 PM

So my track year is being cut short due to something exciting happening in August. It looks like i'll only be able to get one track day in at ORP in July.

Traum 03-26-2015 10:21 PM

^^ Excellent! Must be something really good if it has what it takes to cut your track season short.

Congrats!

Haha thanks. It's actually something very exciting, but very unexpected. I don't want to say anything until i get final confirmation tomorrow, but i'll be sure to spill the beans then! :fullofwin:

dared3vil0 03-26-2015 10:26 PM

Ehhh- Fuck it. I'll post confirmation of dates tomorrow but my car will be featured in a segment for the /Drive channel, hosted by Matt Farah.

Nice.

If there is a hall of shame, my car will be in there. (fact is it was in Revscene HOS)

Just off face value, it sounded like he was pregnant!

Congrats either way!

Kids = expensive.

No kids for me.
