First day back at Sumas!

If anyone wants to come down to join, shoot me a PM!

Lots to work on for sure. Suffered from powertrain issues all day and I'm so out of shape it's hilarious. Longest stint was 12 laps flying laps.

Are you wearing any rib protectors under the racing suit?

Last time I tried out their racing karts, I got 2 nice big, super sore bruises on both sides of my rib cage. So much fun. Down right insane amounts of G force in every possible direction. But the bruises took like 2 weeks to heal, and I told myself I can't possibly go back and do that again unless I jump off the deep end and go all in (full equipment and all).

I wear one but still get bruising. You get used to it after a couple sessions but there was a couple times last year where after long distance testing I had to go see a doctor because the pain was so bad. Now it's more like DOMS after a workout.

Here's a video from day 1. I had the camera mounted at a bad angle which I fixed for day 2. Working on that video over the next few days. I was short a couple thousand RPM's on the first day which was later fixed by a new spark plug and some carb tuning.

Exit pits @ 1:40

And a walkaround video for those of you interested\

Ok, I need to stop dragging my feet and do this.

I know I'll love it, but I've never been to any track days, etc.

Even though I'm a super n00b, seems like a lot of these track days have novice groups? I have no problem taking the plunge and buying a helmet/etc.

What would be a good one to pop my cherry on?

Yeah, unfortunately, VCMC isn't hosting any lapping events outside of Mission this year. Hopefully, the Pacific Raceways event we had last year wouldn't be the last time there though.

If you are completely new at this, I'd recommend one of the VCMC track days over the UBCSCC track days. The VCMC ones tend to be slightly more expensive (than the UBCSCC track days), but they also tend to have a much better instructor-to-student ratio. Most of the time, it is a 1:1 ratio.

The UBCSCC track days will have instructors as well, but the instructor-to-student ratio tends to be lower -- usually it is 1:3 give or take.

I am not familiar enough with the TSS x RevScene track days as far as instruction is concerned. Kchan would be a much better person to comment on that.

The flavours and atmosphere with each group are slightly different, but at the end of the day, the vast majority of folks at the lapping days are just car people that want to have fun, enjoy their cars in a controlled, safe and fast environment. I'd say it is more important to go on a day that you're available than it is to go with one particular group or another.

I've gone to both VCMC and UBCSCC track days and I agree with Traum about the instructors. Makes it easier to get the hang of the track and lapping days in general when your instructor can be in the car with you for the entire session.

Both are well organized clubs though and you can't really go wrong with either one.

as i have emphasized in past posts - if you a new comer i would definitely recommended attending VCMC events and their driving school (velocity) before attending any of the TSS x Revscene events

TSS x Revscene track days do have instructors - it is definitely a more lapping day oriented event

i have grown as a driver myself thanks to VCMC as well - so i definitely recommend them !

regardless - you cannot go wrong with any organizer so long they do provide you an instructor (preferably 1on1) because it will be better than you going in blind

I have not taken the program myself, but I know a number of people who have gone through that training route, and nearly all of them have very high praise for it.

As I understand, the program is organized by SCCBC, with an eye more towards solo sprint / road racing because that is what SCCBC does. By comparison, Velocity Driving School by VCMC and AutoX 101 by UBCSCC place more emphasis on autox because that is what they primarily do. Still, when it comes to basic motorsports skills, the majority of the core stuff directly transfer over from one realm to the other.

IMO, the most valuable aspect of the SCCBC Driver Training program is that successful completion of the training qualifies the driver for a novice race licence at a large number of N.American motorsports organizations. So if you plan on joining any of those races, the SCCBC program would be a fantastic one to do.
