What tires did you guys run last season and what tires are you running for this season? My RE-71Rs are done, will be ordering another set of tires for this season soon. |
For autox Street / ST class competition use, I'd say the RE-71R is still the tire to beat for the moment, especially when our weather is taken into account. For non-competitive use, I've been keeping a close eye on the Maxxis Victra VR-1. Apparently, it is nearly as fast on the track as the RE-71R (whatever that means), but it wears a lot better. Unfortunately, available sizes are really limited now. If you've got some spare 17x9 or 17x10's lying around though, I'd totally recommend you to pick up that 255/40/17. |
I ended up getting something else, will show you at next Auto X/Track Day :ifyouknow: Wanted to get another set of RE-71R because of how much grip you can get for your dollar but they don't last for shit! The Pacific Raceways track day last year killed my RF tire because stock alignment settings :QQ: |
Lol didn't you drive like 95000 KMs though since you've gotten that car? |
I drive on Prius tires on the street. I have like 2-3k street driven km on RE-71R. 10+ Auto X events, guess I can't complain too much on how well they perform at Auto X for the amount of money I spent on them. Pretty grippy on track too but they're a one shot wonder kind of deal lol. Spoiler! |
mb sent me some pornographic images of his new tires via snapchat. This thread will approve of them. This happened on Friday: Luckily it unlocked so I didn't spin out into the barriers. Currently weighing out my options for replacement/rebuild. Kinda shitty because I had just renewed my membership and storage. |

^^ Should have just flipped the tires and mounted inside-out (ie. inside shoulder on outside). The new tires look like they're crap. :troll: |

i've never tracked before, but planning on this year...this might be a stupid question but do you guys take out your spare tire or? |
I always do at autox or track days, but it isn't required from my knowledge. Buuuuttt its less weight so why bother taking it for a ride?! Rich |

I do it all the time at Auto X and track days as well. For track days, I empty out my entire car including the glove box as I get annoyed when I can hear things sliding around. |

At Mission, you'd definitely want to make sure your entire braking system is up to speed because Mission is very brake intensive. In addition to tires, pads, and rotors, you'd also want to make sure you have done a fresh brake flush some time before your track day. If you're aiming at the Aug 29 event, I'd plan the brake flush to take place some time in late July. Continental DW is a fantastic tire. It may not be ideal for track use, but it is definitely serviceable. If you are currently tire shopping, however, I'd ask you to look into the Michelin Pilot Super Sport, the Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position, and the BFG G-Force Sport Comp-2 as well. These tires are all approximately in the same performance category, with the Michelin PSS likely being the most capable (but probably also the most $$$). The Conti DW has a bit of a softer sidewall, so your steering feedback and turn-in would be a bit worse. But the softer sidewall also makes it supremely comfortable for regular street use. |
even at 95db - im pretty sure i wont pass still... get me a 1 free get out of jail card please ahahaha |
thks Traum for the advice....i always do brake flush when i install new pads/rotors anyways...and looks like i'll stick with the conti dw tires...i need a daily driver/low use-track tire |
First ever track day at the Ridge with TSS x RS over the weekend. Had tons of fun, good to see a lot of revscene members out there. Really enjoyed the elevation changes. Can't wait until the July 3rd event! :D Thanks to e.lo for instructing me and giving me a ride in your beast :fullofwin: |
