Playing with a buddy of mine in his S2K this past week at Ridge. Also had a fun time chasing down tofu in his Cayman R
Conditions were tough, very hot with lots of smoke and ash from a forest fire in Oregon. Wasn't able to beat my personal best that day but still a boat load of fun!
Ice racing anyone? I signed up. Want to try and get out of my comfort zone. Stifles has a bunch of legacy, Crosstrek, Impreza, sti’s and even two RS’s. Come join! I have no idea what I’m doing
So 2018 is upon us, and I know many have already signed up for TSS' Ridge events. I'm hoping I'd be able to go to at least some of them, but at this point, things are still a little too much up in the air for me to really know.
I'm sure many of the familiar organizers will continue to hold various track events throughout the year, but at this point, I think only TSS and Speed Fanatics have released their 2018 schedule. Among the Speed Fanatics events, 2 of the more interesting ones are:
$650 for a track day is definitely not cheap. And then you still have to add gas and hotel stay. But at this point, there is no telling whether Avion Motorsports (A27's own in-house organizer?) will organize any public days like they did last year. So at a minimum, it'd be good to mark the 2 above dates down in the calendar first if anyone wants to get a taste of the Jacques Villeneuve track.
we need rent out the pemberton airport and host drag racing. porsche centre of langley did that for their 911 cruise for the cause last year and from what i heard it was shockingly cheap
Just wanted to add a few things to kchan's comments.
I think you're giving up a lot of time in braking, it seems like you're downshifting very early (especially into T11). You transfer from throttle, to brake and downshift immediately. I think, because you're so focused on that heeltoe, the braking distance is massively increased as you're not applying enough braking force (a argument could be made you're over-revving the engine as well).
Your car sounds great and looks like a blast to drive, with some small tweaks you could find a lot of time out there!

plenty more to come - remember you can always ask around for ride-alongs for some pointers or get a feel of how other people are taking some of the turns - it enlightens you *seriously*
Started the trip with driving to Oliver on Thursday for track day on Friday at Area 27 with VCMC. Then headed down to Shelton, Washington on Saturday which took about 8 hours for a track day on Sunday with TSS x RS at Ridge. Man that trip was tiring as fuck, super fun times but don't think I'd ever do that again haha
I thought we have pretty much touched on every kind of motorsports RSers have participated in? Track, autox, ice racing, rally, etc.
Didn't take a detailed look over all 53 pages. Looked at the first two pages, and the last 3 pages. But hey, since shitty drivers got moved to nsfw (aka dead central), this can be my next fav thread! Will post smt about my autox experience after work.

Not this year. I’ll make it out to watch the CRC Merrit and Big white events. Last winter was ice racing. This summer is track. Hopefully next year I can do some TSD events. Don’t think I’ll go in the competitive mindset, just to enjoy backroad BC
I'm hoping to finally do Totem this year as well, for one reason or another we've just never been able to make it work. We did Thunderbird in my Celica GTS that's lowered 2" and it survived just fine, though there were some deep cattleguards that I hit harder than I would've liked. I'm going to be making strut spacers that I can swap in for events to raise the car up to ~1.5" above stock and then take back out after without needing an alignment. If that works well I might toss them on my GTFour and bring it to Thunderbird.

I think we all know I've been looking for suspension for some time now, I decided to go to auto-x with the purpose of testing upgrades.
First Auto-X experience was May 12, Raydays #1, with UBCSCC. My set up at the time was garbage, still is, but it was a lot worse. For Raydays #1, it was almost bald 235/35/19 WRG3 (all weathers) front (19x8.5) and almost bald 265/30/19 PSS rear (19x9.5).
For my first ever auto-x, it wasn't bad. Last in class (DS) but tons of improvement.
Best run is highlighted in bold. Roughly a 3.6sec improvement from first actual run (run 2) and best run.
Run 1: 56.862
Run 2: DNF
Run 3: 52.195
Run 4: 50.636 + 1
Run 5: DNF
Run 6: 50.131
Run 7: 50.927
Run 8: 48.934
Run 9: 48.847 Run 10: 48.638
For my second auto-x on June 10th, I had gotten my new tires mounted. I got Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s in 245/35/19 square, but wheel width still different. I'm not too satisfied with this session, as I feel that I didn't really improve. My steering wasn't as quick, but that could either be because I hadn't driven the car for two weeks or because I wasn't used to my new set up being square and wider up front. The turn in does feel a lot nicer, but again, new suspension is definitely needed. This time, only a 1.9sec difference between first good run and best run.
Run 1: 50.582
Run 2: DNF
Run 3: 48.500
Run 4: DNF
Run 5: DNF
Run 6: 45.810 + 2
Run 7: 46.692
Run 8: 46.706 Run 9: 46.582
For a new driver (at autox), I -- or any other autox veteran, for that matter -- can't stress enough how much it helps to have a senior driver ride along with you. The insights and suggestions that they can see and make are always phenomenal in helping new drivers develop. After that, you want to hop into their cars, and see for yourself how it is done, and what a veteran driver would do differently from what you do. It is always eye-opening to see what a fast driver can pull off.
