Video added.

Key takeaways:
- Track brakes not fully heated up, hence the squealing. They are not necessary at my skill level and track.
- You'll hear some rattling when the car bounces or hits a bump. This is my fire extinguisher mount.
- First time using a GoPro on a new mount. I need to figure out the best way to position it and see how I can get rid of the reflection from the windshield.

I know. Big rookie mistake. What "looked" ok in the car was clearly not what translates into video. I have vision problems like you. Except I will do better next time.

Edit: Will point it down to capture more of the car and also figure out this software (or try other software.)

Just got back from VIMC. I regret not doing a double header haha. Nevertheless, despite it being hot I had tons of fun being sendy, giving hot lap ride alongs, and a few instructional laps for friends that are new.

Happy to say that my car survived a hot day AND a double session day. My friend's car broke, so I offered him my car to codrive. It was my friend's first time driving my car on track. He also has a FK8, but big aero, coil overs, and square set up. Whereas, I have stock aero, stock suspension,a reverse staggered set up and a tune LOL. I think he's been turned to the dark side lul.

Also shoutout to J.C. for getting Gerbs on track. I can hear the addiction now. Looking forward to seeing you both on track more. Great to see 320icar as well!

Taiwanese quality happened LOL. Oh I see the disconnect. We pre-planned the double sessions. He found out his shocks were blown a week prior to the road trip. So road trip was fine with it, but he didn't want to track it. So we both took my car instead.

I have to ask: Which brand?

Anyone who wants track stickers with a time stamp, pm me with the track, and time stamp. Ex: ridge 2:02.05

They are 3" wide, approx 2" tall. White in color, vinyl.
Pickup in vancouver, should be 10$ each if price is same as last time.
Tracks available: ridge, a27, mission, vimc

Im redoing mine, can put an order in for extras

So where to begin for this little adventure...

These two track days were quite close to each other in terms of time and location so I decided to do a mini road trip and combine the two, as it would make for quite a nice little loop but yet not be so much seat time in the S2000 that I felt like killing myself.

Met up with a couple of friends to take the 5:15AM ferry to Nanaimo - good grief that was early. I definitely felt the lack of sleep by the end of the day and decided to not do the last open lapping session as the energy level was lower, with lots of driving left for the weekend.

Me second from the left, with S2000 friend and GR Corolla friend.

We had quite a few S2000s out, and even more the day before apparently.

So I was in group D (novice group) as I am not yet fully confident in my driving, and wanted to be in a group in which I wouldn't hold up too many people. What I wasn't anticipating was the amount of traffic that was going to happen as some of the other drivers were holding up long trains of people. I think checking mirrors should have been emphasized more, and more pointing by should have happened. By the end of the day it was getting a bit better as people spaced themselves out more, and got to grips with the track.

My shifting was not up to par as VIMC is a very tight, technical track, and I cheated and left the S2000 in 3rd gear most of the time, only shifting up to 4th on the main straight. My time wasn't the best - in fact I think I was faster with my Audi wagon due to being able to concentrate on lines - but considering the heat and the fact that I am still learning to drive the S2000, I figure it was good enough, and that there will be other opportunities to come back and improve.

Here's my PB lap of the day during open lapping. 1:36.7.

A few of us who were going to take the Victoria-Port Angeles ferry decided to group up and drive down to the Ridge together,

I think in a situation like this, being in a group of 3-4 cars or so makes for a much nicer experience as you have travel buddies, and if something does happen you're not at the mercy of passerbys.

We woke up nice and early to drive the 5 minutes from our hotel to the ferry loading area which was right in downtown Victoria in front of the Empress Hotel. Luckily, we were #7, 8 and 9 on the standby line. This would play a larger role later.

It was a beautiful morning in Victoria.

Remember how I mentioned we were #7, 8 and 9 in standby? They only took 12 standby vehicles. The MV Coho is an interesting old vessel (1959) which is lovingly maintained, but the vehicle deck is definitely not modern.

This was how tightly we were packed - I had to climb out of my convertible top. Otherwise I'd be stuck in there for the duration of the journey! The drive from Port Angeles to Shelton was nice and scenic, besides being stuck behind someone who didn't want to go faster than 35mph.

The Ridge... I finally understand the hype about the track. The flowing corners, the elevation changes, how they link into each other. This was a track that was awesome! Completely blows VIMC and Mission out of the water. Each corner let you try a variety of lines, and rewarded you for being braver and braver each lap with getting closer to the edges. Every time I went out I learned something new, and got more and more comfortable.

At the end of the day as I was turning to park in my spot my left front fender line decided it had enough and a piece came off. Thankfully there wasn't any damage beyond that, and some duct taping + zip ties made it good enough to go back out and set my PB lap of 2:14.7 which was in traffic. I know there's lots left in the car (sub 2?) and I look forward to heading back.

Chasing some friends around the Ridge. God the car sounds good!

After the Ridge we managed to catch the Kingston-Edmonds ferry to get around Seattle traffic, and got home by 10PM which was pretty decent. I do have to say that I kept Airpods in for the entire drive because with the top up the S2000 buzzed, creaked and rattled like crazy. Would have gone deaf for sure.

Post track triage:
- Rough idle, AFR readings going a bit wonky. I hope it's nothing major like injectors. Completely fine WOT.... I think? Drivable but I would like to chase down these symptoms and make sure it's nothing major.
- I may need a set of compatible GLoc street pads because the race pads chirping and squealing for street use is driving me a bit bonkers.
- Car held up fine during the sessions, brakes were strong. In fact I think I could have gone deeper into the brakes and they would have been fine.
- My shifting sucks. I need to practice heel and toeing more.
- Seat time seat time seat time. Need to get more seat time.

Was great to see donk., Gerbs, mb_ and other RS members out there as well!

Those of you that trail brake, and by what ive seen, the definition is slight brake + gas simultaneously as coming up to the apex:

How many of you are doing it? Auto or manual car?

How much time would you say trail braking saves you, vs driving "normal?"

When did you start trail braking? Seems like a very advanced skill

I think you might be getting braking + heel-toe (downshift) and trail braking mixed up.

Trailing braking just means you carry a gradually reduced amount of braking as you navigate through your corner entry. If you want to break the steps down, it more or less goes like this:

1. do threshold braking (in a straight line)
2. begin to ease off the brakes before the turn in point
3. turn in
4. as you increase the steering angle, continue to reduce brake pressure

IMO there are 2 primary purposes to trail braking:

a. it helps you transfer weight to the front as the car begins to turn so that turning / rotating the car becomes easier
b. allows you to brake later and carry a little more speed going into a turn

Most of the time, it is more commonly used in FWD/AWD cars where they are more prone to understeer. Because of benefit A), the car becomes more willing to rotate. In your Vette, I am not sure how necessary it is because it should be far less stubborn than those pesky FWD/AWD with turning.

It is a more advanced technique primarily because if it is not well executed, it is very easy to cause your car to spin.
