if you wanna base it on brand and engine size alone...yeah sure
i'd argue it's just as much of a driver-focused car with the likes of Nissan Z and BMW M-series and costed similarly brand new in Canada
my interpretation of an entry-level sports car would be a used NA Miata for a few thousand dollars

I am curious as to what the RHD imports will do to the value North American LHD ones now that they are starting to roll in.

1999 Honda J-SPEC S2000 AP1 6 speed manual, 250HP jdm model, Limited s

I'm far from a Honda fanboy, but the S2000 is something genuinely special. I'm privileged to have been able to drive both the AP1 and AP2 a handful of times. If I wasn't such a Toyota fanboy, I would have had no second thought to picking one up. Like the NSX, the lines of the S2000 are timeless.

Wow, I can't believe comparisons of "class" even came into the discussion of S2000.

Seriously, which real car enthusiast looking to buy an S2000 gives a shit about the class?

People are buying S2000 purely for its driving experience.

to the OP, are you married? if so, by the time you wait around and are ready to buy an s2000 you'll more than likely end up having a kid. if that happens, good luck trying to convince your wife that you need a "summer only" car...

your time is now. get one and live it up.

I'm in the market for an s2000 as well as damn I didn't know these cars were so rare locally. Seems like everyone who has one for sale wants 15-30% more than it's supposed market value. Then again... clean ones are pretty rare I guess.

S2000 are not civics they were Hondas flagship model and msrp around high 50k brand new.
Just like the nsx, supra the s2000 is one of the most coveted japanese cars. Don't think for a second these cars will depreciate because if they did everyone would buy one for a track car. The s2000 is a legendary car and finding a mint one is going to cost you a pretty penny

OP makes it sound like he's clueless why the s2000 is still fetching high prices. That 13 yr car is still highly sought after and the nostalgia remains. Same reason TT rx7 fetch a huge premium. It's called supply and demand and there's not enough supply for demands

You sound like the 5% kid right now. Anyways, these things were amazing back when they first came out in 99. OP should be on a good plateau if he follows through as a worst case scenario.

Let me put it this way,

For $17000, you can buy a better car, you're all putting the S2K on this super high fucking pedestal like it's the king of all cars.

If you want to get a "drivers experience" car, go buy a miata/MX-5, the poor man's S2K.

Agreed. For what it physically is, $17k is overpriced as hell for an S2000.

Sadly, I have to agree. Once you have a kid, good luck trying to justify a two seater to your wife...or even yourself.

I have a friend with a kid; he's got a miata as a second car that he drives a few times a year.

Anyways, of the cars listed by OP, both the 350Z and S2000 have depreciated sufficiently that he won't be taking a bit hit when he decides to resell.

Nobody. The same cars have been for sale for a year or two.

I've looked at the prices of s2k's and was surprised to find that 2012 prices were cheaper than prices now.... I've talked to a few owners over the past few months and it seems like there is a high demand for them, even with the ridiculous prices. Prices seem to be appreciating and even looking south of the border, prices aren't cheap enough to outweigh the cost of duties and bad USD:CAD exchange. There's definitely much more supply though.

Take a look at this thread. General consensus is that it is appreciating. KBB also reflects that even though their prices aren't always the most accurate.

Our s2k are actually appreciating. - S2KI Honda S2000 Forums

just buy a Kingsway/King George Hwy Special and call it a day

belaud care to share how you went about obtaining your S for half of the local rate? I've looked at US prices and they are within 20% of local...milage usually higher too. I've looked at some in the winter too so I took into account the sunny tax.

summer = higher demand for convertibles
winter = no one wants convertibles

prices will vary because of this
Thats what i really meant
but sure, i still dont get what you mean, so explain

Nothing wrong with that though as long as maintained properly.
