Lots of love for the screen res but for me a 5.5" screen just feels awkward to use

how the fck do they keep making these cameras better yet keep them the same size...
and can someone explain why 1080p on my $700 camcorder actually looks like 1080p when played on my bigscreen, while the videos shot with my Nexus 5 in 1080p barely pass for 720p...
to me these phones dont really seem to shoot at these specs, but im not an expert so cant quite put my finger on it if someone could briefly explain to me...

its because of the sensor size & processing chip and video bitrates
that's why some older phones still have better looking 720p video and 5mpx pics

Even pictures taken with my S4 or iphone 5 looks better and is a whole generation behind in terms of specs.

hmm... so my next phone purchase i shouldnt get suckered by buzzwords like 1080p recording, etc.... what camera specs should I be looking at exactly then ?
all I want to be able to do is record with my phone in full legit 1080p and just as importantly 60 frames per second....

If it's acceptable to most people I would say it's a good trade off
Therefore how is it even an issue? Obviously for a phone to be cheaper the components have to be of lesser quality.
If you want high end performance, you gotta pay the price. That's like buying a genesis then getting mad about not being able to smoke M3's

The simple fact is that the video camera has 10x the space to work with in terms of enlarging/improving the image sensor, lens(es), image stabilization, etc. It doesn't have to worry about interference with the many other components of the phone; there are no compromises.
I'm actually thinking about picking up a G3 when it comes out to replace my Z10. First reviews seem to indicate that it has a pretty great camera but to my first point, I know that my Olympus EM-5 will shit all over it. The thing is that I just can't bring myself to lug around my big camera everywhere, and I always have my phone on me, so that's the tradeoff I choose to make. HTC One and a 5D MkIII below:
I'm excited though about the G3. Looks like it checks most of the boxes on my want list, so maybe I'll soon end up with my first Android phone.

although with Nokia sold to Msft and everyone else making thinner phones I don't know if we'll be seeing phones with larger sensor sizes anymore
for example
this is a size compare of the sensors on phones with cameras
when nokia was owned by well nokia they made phones with big sensors so you got better quality images, but now that microsoft owns them i doubt we'll be seeing larger sensors (heck as you can see even with the lumia 1020 the sensor size shrunk)
and you'll also have to look at lenses (nokia used to use Carl Zeiss lenses but now... dunno)
and for video quality there really isnt a chart that gives you some general things to look at like you do for stills but if the phone has OIS that's a + and you can read up on what kind of video processing chip they use (they may just use the cpu though and not a dedicated processing chip)
Anyway Ultimately you'll have to depend on reviews from like GSMArena that actually do non-biased comprehensive reviews

A big factor is the space constraints for the lens too.

If you want high end performance, you gotta pay the price. That's like buying a genesis then getting mad about not being able to smoke M3's | One+ starts at $349 is the same price as N5 and have better specs and better cameras. The oppo find 7a is about $500 so $151 cheaper but you get a 5.5 inch dsiplay, better camera and faster CPU.
S4 goes for http://www.amazon.ca/Samsung-GT-I950...sung+galaxy+s4
$449 so $100 more. so can google make a nexus phone with better camera for the same price. I am sure they can.

Be realistic when you make your comparisons please. The N5 is as cheap as $349 OFF CONTRACT. Obviously now the S4 is $449 as the S5 is available.
As for the One+ and Oppo, aren't these very new devices that were announced/released within the past few months? Lets not forget the N5 has been available for what, 6 months now?
The point Google is trying to make is that you can have a highly spec'd device for a fraction of the cost. They don't advertise it as the smartphone king that will obliterate any smartphone available.
I think you guys worry about smartphone camera quality WAY too much..
If you want great pics, buy an SLR. Wait a second, those are expensive! Just like top of the line smartphones with "high quality" cameras!
I think I see a pattern here..

I want to get the black one so bad, but then they say snapdragon 805 variant will come out soon, that's what holding me back, even though 801 and 805 performance are so close.

as stated by a fido rep it seems fido's LTE network runs on 2100 and 2600 (mostly 2600). Now I am not sure what does B1 and B7 stands for though.....

B = Band
1 is 2100, 5, is 850, 3 is 1800 etc etc
The baseband having the support the frequencies doesn't mean that the actual antennas are connected to those bands. Quote:

I don't think any phone can beat the speaker on the M8....... but at least the speaker on the LG G3 seems decent. The same can't be said about the Z2.
