Seems like the norm now across all carriers. |
wow that is fucking bullshit just talked to a mobile shop person in Superstore and found out it is legit...if you use your HUP to purchase a highend phone then your minimum phone plan would have to be $80 so in reality it is better to buy the phone outright and pay month to month to keep your phone plan the same. Fucking phone companies! |

For example, if you have an old $55-60 6GB plan, they won't be able to offer you an HUP and will need you to change your plans to a Max Plan(Fido) or a Share Everything Plan(Rogers). Retention won't be able to do anything this time, maybe OOP but that's a stretch. |
I think for Fido customers, if you have a good plan, it makes sense to use all your fido dollars to buy the device outright. Granted the 50+tax unlocking fee is highway robbery... but it's better than nothing. So you still end up paying less |

Rogers Hardware Upgrades Will Require $80 Plans Starting June 17 [u] | iPhone in Canada Blog - Canada's #1 iPhone Resource I called into HUP department at the beginning of August and the lady told me I have to go on the Share Everything plan in order to do an upgrade. She said that all customers with a $60+ plan will have a one time exception (which I already used in 2013), after that, they will have to go on the new plans in order for upgrade. $80+ plan customers' request can be override by a manager. However, the article states starting June 17th. I did a hardware upgrade at the Rogers corporate store in brentwood on July 27th and they didn't make me change my plan. I didn't keep the phone though because of some price match error. Not sure about now, but they were training agents to force customers to go on the new plans if they want hardware upgrade, so do your upgrade at the store, because employees there basically don't know shit about contracts, plans, etc. The downside is, the store don't have the power to give you discounts and credits, and whatever they promise you at the store, Rogers doesn't have to honor it. I also heard from a source that they will scrap this soon because it's not productive. Customers are buying device outright, when instead, if they didn't force customers to go on new plan, customers would be signing 2 year contracts which I would think it's a better business practice. |
its not 80$ for all carriers. If i HUP through telus, as long as i dont cancel, id be saving $245 on the iphone. Telus lets you keep your existing plan as long as you add features to make it a minimum $70 plan. I currently have the 60$ 5gb plan and i can add 10$ worth of features and get the iphone as a HUP. If i was contract free: Iphone6+ 64gb no term: $970 With term: Iphone6+ 64gb 2 year plan = $485 Adding 10$ per month x 24 = $240 Total Spent on 2 year contract = $725 As long as i dont cancel my contract, id be exchanging 2 years of my loyalty for a discount of $245 on the phone. the math is a bit different if you have a cheaper plan and if you already meet the $70 minimum, then you'd be saving $485 on 6+ 64gb. I've changed my carrier once in the last decade and it was to take over my moms account. |
yep, all carriers you're looking min $80 a month I know Bell and Virgin has some loyalty plans, can get away with $65 but only 1gb of data. Fido, if you're on a max plan already you might be able to get away with that. Rogers have some loyalty plans too, but they're usually higher plans with a bit more data |
Fuck all these carriers and the greed they have! |

lol.. dad ordered 128gb ip6+ that's 1.2k down the hole |
Nowadays, buying and receiving the iPhone on launch day is like an expensive way of saying "First". It makes no real difference if you get it on September 19th or mid October. |
