Anything over $80/month is highway robbery.
You're better buying the phone outright and leverage your power when negotiating with various companies.

since the iPhone 3 came out....for years the big 3 telecom companies were offering plans
$25 voice + $30 6gb data = $55.
It became the standard norm and the majority of us still have it. And we plan to fight tooth and nail to keep it.

So for you new customers...your SHIT OUT OF LUCK as far as I know. $80 minimum.

250 min daytime canada wide
unlimited international text/picture/video message
Umlimited calling after 5pm
CID
6GB Data.

Got my HUP fee waived too.

and it's
$265 for iphone6 16gb or
$375 for iphone 6 64gb.

Didn't ask about the iphone6+. Hopefully this helps guys.

This is the exact same quote I got as well from Fido to customer with grandfathered contracts. To keep my $55 contract and not be forced to their minimum contract I wont get the full subsidize price.
Im still waiting on the exact price for phone an iPhone 6+ 64gb half subsidized. In return they'll get my loyalty for 2 years.

Ill keep you guys updated if I should keep my $55 plan for half subsidized phone.
or switch to the $65 plan for full subsidy.

Bell iPhone Upgrades Now Require $80 Monthly Plans | iPhone in Canada Blog - Canada's #1 iPhone Resource

Rogers and Bell with the 80 minimum, time to switch to another carrier.

Nabatron 09-13-2014 12:39 PM

does telus do this 80 dollar per month screw job?

Nabatron 09-13-2014 01:04 PM

talked to rogers customer service to see what they could do best they could do without talking to retentions so far is:

Shared everything plan

95 per month
unlimited LD Canada wide
voice mail/called ID
6GB Data
Unlimited text

for 87 per month

I pay for my 6GB plan around 78 per month and my wife pays 90 before tax for 2gb with the same shit I listed above...

going to try and get it lower but fuck these plans are expensive!

Gucci Mane 09-13-2014 01:17 PM

I'm with bell and that seems like complete rape. Oh well, looks like I'll be hanging on to my nexus 5 for quite a while.

$87 tax in is not bad for that plan.

But people need to understand that, the more they take on these Share Everything plan (ie. - $100+ for 3gb soandsos), the more the Big 3 will sell these plan. These plans are robbery.

Nabatron 09-13-2014 01:30 PM

^^yeah I hear that which is why I can see this happening lots and then in a year or two will reduce it and probably change the whole plan to some other complete bullshit! but fuck paying $87 a month is legit robbery...still dont know if this is just rogers and bell doing this or if telus has better deals...

The subsidy is $484 on every phone. So, 1/2 of that is $242. For $10 more per month or 24 x $10 = $240 you don't have to pay that $242. So, you are ahead $2 (plus the time value of money which is just less than $3 after tax). The $65 plan is better in terms just of money but only by a hair. However, there is one more thing to consider:

Once you renew at $65 you won't be able to go back to $55 when the contract ends. If you stay at $55 then when the contract ends you can stay at $55 on a monthly basis.

I would stay at $55 and shell out the extra cash.

GabAlmighty 09-13-2014 02:40 PM

I'm pretty bummed I missed out on these 6gb plans from back in the day...

Gonna see what kind of fandangling they can do with my current plan to get me something good. Won't be on a contract so should have a bit of pull, a little bit haha.

SkinnyPupp 09-13-2014 03:47 PM

When I see these plans, I am so glad I pay $24 a month for 5GB of data... (if I had an iPhone I'd be paying $50+)

Ya but at the same time, you're in an iPhone thread talking about Wind Mobile...I'm pretty sure if people in here weren't looking for an iPhone, Wind would be a viable option.

dyan 09-13-2014 07:34 PM

Anyone have an extra 64GB iphone6 reserved? :D

Idk, i think maybe they're following some business consumer act or something.

When the 6gb grandfather was on promotion, all 3 carrier were promoting it. Now share everything, all 3 of them are doing it.

Otherwise, I can't see why one of them don't just undercut the others and rake in business.

Nabatron 09-13-2014 11:10 PM

Yeah seems dumb imagine one is like fuck it I'm not going to give out shitty palms here's the same 6gb plan for cheaper everyone would flock over that's for sure!

Ludepower 09-14-2014 08:59 AM

It's a rigged monopoly. All these telecom companies have the same prices.
The infrastructure is already there.
I don't know how rates keep climbing while content lessens.

Nabatron 09-14-2014 12:22 PM

not sure on what to do with my phone plan and trying to get the iphon6..

stay with current 6gb plan and pay 76.10 a month or switch to $95 sharing plan with my wife which I will be paying $87 after tax each between wife and myself...

but then I can get a subsidized iphone6 but will have to pay and early upgrade fee of 222.22

wife got fucked on her current plan which she had switched from a 6gb plan to a fucking expensive $90 dollar plan with 2gb and unlimited text, caller id/voice, unlimited calling Canada wide. Guy told wife this was a better plan then the 6gb plan wife believed him and now is paying an atrocious amount a month.

So much shit to think about I hate phone companies!

SoNaRWaVe 09-14-2014 12:44 PM

it is always a wiser choice to just buy the phone outright. once you upgrade your plan, you can only go higher and never lower. yes, the subsidized phone may seem cheaper, but you pay more, alot more, in the long run.

87$ after tax is 10$ more per month. over your 2 year term, thats 200$ + you need to pay an early HUP fee. thats 422$. save up a bit more coin and then get the phone. you're already more than half way there. and you get more data by staying on your current plan.

Nabatron 09-14-2014 02:04 PM

Yeah that is true also some news my wife didnt tell that she pays $90 before tax I was like who the fuck thought this plan was better then the 6gb plan you had before!

Fuck if I thought the phone companies were going to screw us around I would have just pre ordered the phone. Now I will have to wait and see what do...But wow was a pissed when I found out those fuckers at rogers did highway robbery on my wife thinking a $100 plan was better then a $70 plan..

dangonay 09-14-2014 02:48 PM

Another feature Apple never talked about is that the A8 can support H.265 video (which Apple does mention along with FaceTime and that it uses half the bandwidth as before).

That would make the A8 the first device with H.265 built in. Now we have to wait and see if they apply it to other features as well (like H.265 content or recording video in H.265).

Nabatron 09-14-2014 02:55 PM

I just want to know how the battery life stacks up to iphone5/5s and if its going to be enough for power users!

kcl38 09-14-2014 03:08 PM

Just talked to a Fido rep to clarify some things for myself. Figured I would share.

"The only discount we have for the new Iphone6 or the Iphone 6 plus is on a 2 year max plan (because Apple has not given us pricing on Smart or Standard plans yet). At some point Apple will release the pricing for smart and standard plans for us."

"If you are buying it without any agreement you can have it unlocked right away however it is still $50. If you buy it from an Apple store and use Fido dollars yes it will be locked to Fido."

Looks like what I'm going to be doing is cashing my $250 worth of Fido dollars and buying it no contract!

Nabatron 09-14-2014 03:27 PM

just talked to Rogers rep and told me some greasy shit apple might do in the future or who knows maybe now...

If you buy/pre order the iphone it will come to you unlocked..but if you go in and do a HUP under your carrier the phone will be locked to the at carrier as usual. The kicker here is after its locked to the carrier it wont be able to be unlocked by anything....

This to me seems very stange but yet possible only time will tell I guess.

steinfeld 09-14-2014 03:32 PM

Battery life is a 10% improvement for the Iphone 6 and 20-40% improvement for the Iphone 6+ when compared to the Iphone 5.
