iPhone 6 & iOS 8 Thread

Foxconn confirms 4.7" and 5.5" Apple iPhones - GSMArena.com news

4.5-5" is the perfect phone size for me...I'm very interested in the specs that may tip me over to the apple side for once.

Apple's Steve Jobs: 'no one's going to buy' a big phone

Mr.HappySilp 06-02-2014 08:01 AM

I think 4.7 to 5 inch is pretty good.
Although I use a 5.5 inch screen now and going back to a 5 inch looks so small lol.

Gucci Mane 06-02-2014 09:26 AM

i agree. 4.7 will be that sweet spot thats not too big but not too small. wont feel as big with a bulky case on it either. lets see if they actually announce the phone today though.. in all honesty though, specs on phones dont matter much anymore. everyone is making a powerful device. its all about how it looks and feels and how the OS operates..

One thing I really like aobut iOS is that it is very optomize to work with apple. Even if the phone/tablets apple have isn't running on the fastest CPU or more RAM it still works really smooth. With android is very different. Every manfacture put their own UI on top and it makes the phone more laggy or not as smooth. So even with the fastest/best hardware it doesn't feel as smooth as iOS. There also seems to be more bugs and glitches with each different phone (take my find 7a for example it doesn't run Asphlat 8).

Gucci Mane 06-02-2014 10:58 AM

no new iphone today. lame.

twitchyzero 06-02-2014 11:23 AM

yes Jobs insisted on a small size...but i doubt they're able to increase pixel density at its current dimensions.

if they dont up the size for the new device then sales are likely gonna take a hit

freakshow 06-02-2014 11:35 AM

^ That's why I hate them so much.. They specifically, and explicitly stated they they did some 'research' and determined that the iPhone width is 'perfect', which is why the 5 was only longer. Now they're going back on that, just like everyone knew they would.

Classic Apple just spouting BS after BS while resorting to bashing others as their marketing.

iCloud performs this function across multiple physically different devices. Suspend on one computer, resume on another.
I predicted "Continuity" 2 years ago when iCloud first came out. Hey Apple, what took you so long?

Research using data from back then (4 years ago) would give a different result if research is using the present day data.

In other words, Steve Jobs said that the iPhone screen size was fine back in July 2010. It's been 4 years. Consumer's behavior and needs change over time. I think 4 years is a very long time.

!Yaminashi 06-02-2014 01:41 PM

Have consumers behaviors and needs actually changed? Or have manufacturers marketed well enough to make people think they need a 5.5" screen on phones?

I mean if Samsung never released the note series, would people still be saying "damn my 4.5" screen is too small!"

Perhaps manufacturers have brainwashed people into wanting big screen phones. Ultimately it doesn't matter because consumers are the ones buying the phones, if enough people want a big screen iPhone, Apple should make one.

I think there is too much brand loyalty going on in all Apple/Android forum posts. Whenever Apple/Android releases something new, in comes all the bashing. I'm quite happy with my Sony Z Ultra, I want an iPhone that's 6.4" LOL.

It's a developers conference, not a hardware announcement. Apple has announced some hardware at WWDC (and an iPhone) but that's not what its main focus is.

If you're a developer then this WWDC was mind-blowing.

mos_skeeto 06-02-2014 02:02 PM

Why is someone so fixated about them making a bigger phone after they said no many years ago. If they said bigger phones are great but we're not going to make one right now they would shoot themselves in the foot.

twitchyzero 06-02-2014 02:23 PM

because it came off pretty arrogant and rubbed people off the wrong way
at that time they could've just said "3.5 inches is a good size and we have no plans for bigger phones atm"
but what the hell do i know about hardware announcements/reveals

SkinnyPupp 06-02-2014 07:13 PM

Finally you'll be able to use 3rd party keyboards

However considering how much iOS devices lack RAM, I can only imagine how bad the experience will be. iOS7 is already way too bloated for most devices, and this will only make things worse.

lowside67 06-02-2014 08:10 PM

FWIW, I seem to be in the minority, but I do NOT want my iPhone to be any larger - I love how easily it fits into the pockets in a suit. I have a 3lb 13" laptop that travels everywhere with me, I have no need for a tablet masquerading as a phone...

I think I'm somewhere between your ideal phone and a smaller limitation.
I think anything over 5" screens are a little ridiculous. I think 4.5-4.7" is the sweet spot

default doesn't have cantonese pinyin, so I either had to jailbreak my iphone or use an android which google have made the input method for android.

third party keyboard was the only thing that attracted me to used the android.

For people with Apple TVs you will soon be able to do peer to peer streaming to it from your devices. This is great for me since I get bad performance streaming from couch > router far away > tv.
