The mezger is an awesome powerplant and I love the sound it makes which is lost with the new 991 but you gain so many other things its hard to not go to the 991.
The only current model I am considering is the GT3. Not a fan of the C2 or C4 or the Turbo. The GT2 would be a lot of fun but not my cup of tea.
The Turbo would be a true everyday car but I'm more a track/auto-x/fun drive kind of person and I have other cars if speed is what I am wanting.
What year GT3 do you have? | It's an 04. I've had it forever. I tried the 997 (.1 and .2) GT3, and didn't think it was an upgrade. I have yet to drive a car that feels like the 6-3 in terms of road feel, lightness, danger, rawness, the whole package. If I really wanted to go fast (as you said too), I'd probably just get a GTR and call it a day. But I like to be involved in the experience.
The engine in the 996/7 GT3 was built from the GT1's success in racing. The 991 GT3 however was built from the carrera - the reason why a lot of people are slamming the new GT3. 6/7 GT3's came from racing, the 991 didn't. That said, I'm sure the 991 GT3 is amazing to drive, it looks cool, is from the right company, ticks all the right boxes, I probably wouldn't refuse one if offered to me.
But does the homologation, racing pedigree, track derived engine thing really even matter that much? Probably not. The most important point is that if you like it, who cares what anyone else thinks. It's still pretty much one of the best cars on the planet. |
