i can't be the only one...

...reading about Nathan Horton's condition and how horrible it is. I feel for the guy. I hope he gets the right treatment and has a pain free life away from hockey.

But c'mon, is it really THAT hard of a decision?? Fuck hockey. I'd throw that away in a heartbeat if it meant a pain free life that I could spend with my children/family.
So what if you can't play the game you love...you have the rest of your life.

I don't know how legit this source it. It would be pretty damn cool to have an NHL team in Vegas.

The Vegas Craps? A couple dice as the logo, name has a few meanings?

murd0c 11-13-2014 08:52 AM

Watch them call the team the LV Outlaws...

radioman 11-13-2014 08:55 AM

It's going to be a stadium filled with tourists from the strip. They might not get that home game feel from a bunch of people who don't care for the team.

It's hard for a professional athlete because it's the one thing they loved doing (in most cases) since childhood. They followed their dreams, achieved them, and now it's being taken away not on their own accord. If you think of it like that then you can see why it's so hard for professional athletes facing that type of decision to make up their minds. It's one thing to leave because you want to. It's another when something outside of your control is taking it away from you.

Gumby 11-13-2014 09:08 AM

I don't understand how the NHL is picking cities/owners for expansion teams when Bettman very recently said "no NHL expansion in any current plans".

Or do they set everything up, then say "Ok we are expanding - in cities x y z."

I get where you're coming from and to most, normal people that's probably true but for (young) professional athletes, the game is their life.

Goals so dirty you'll need to take a shower after you watch - Imgur

Hondaracer 11-13-2014 11:46 AM

Horton has a cup ring and probably 30+ million in the bank. Shouldn't be that hard even as a young athlete

chouchou 11-13-2014 12:27 PM

It's not all about "money in the bank".. Realizing that you will never be able to do something at the level you have grown to love and accustomed to doing again is understandably difficult regardless of what age you are. In Horton's case, it's probably even more difficult considering he's so young and likely had at least 5 more years in him should he have been healthy.

6o4__boi 11-13-2014 12:58 PM

but seriously though...how difficult can it be to make that call when you're facing these conditions?
I understand if the condition wasn't this bad.

Speaking for the first time on his condition, Horton said he can’t even do simple things.

“I can’t stand up like a normal person; I can’t bend over,” Horton told The Columbus Dispatch. “I can’t run. I can’t play with my kids. To get in and out of the car, I’m like a 75-year-old man … so slow and stiff. I can’t sleep at night. I try to lay down and my back seizes up and I can’t move, so sleeping is out. I’m like a zombie in the daytime.”
hockey would be the last of my concerns if it was this bad.

From my understanding, it's not like he is risking future complications by delaying the decision. For him right now, it's basically holding on to the super slim hope that there will be a miracle cure that could allow him to recover and play hockey again, and the tradeoff for that is putting up with the pain that he's in right now. Once he makes the decision to fuse his spine, then it's a done deal - he knows for sure he'll never play hockey again.

No matter what, he'll be fine in the future after he gets the operation... but for now he's choosing to put up with the pain, until he is ready to accept that there is no alternative.

Would be funny if the puck went into the net too.

Spoiler!

LsquareD 11-14-2014 12:27 PM

Questionable hit. The net deserves a 3-5 game suspension imo.
