Not a surprise actually. Outside if the antics. The guys a good PK man. It wouldn't surprise me if a guy like Hansen reaches that milestone as well.

Was just listening to 1040 on the way home. Gretzky was being interviewed regarding Pat Quinn. Wayne said in 96 had it been up to himself and Quinn they would have got the deal done to have Gretzky sign in Van.

Craziness

tonyzoomzoom 11-24-2014 03:58 PM

The hockey gods must be drafting for their all-star team or something...

RIP, Pat and Viktor.

Quinn made the Canucks what they are today. I don't know of anyone else in the organization who has had a more positive impact on the club than Pat. You will be missed.

For not signing Gretzky, eff you, McCammon.
And then turning around to sign Messier, eff you x2, McCammon !

These two moves must rival as the worst decision ever made in Canucks history (the Neely trade also comes to mind; but at the time, I doubt anyone fully knew of Cam's potential)

SumAznGuy 11-24-2014 04:06 PM

I'm curious to see if Pavel Bure will say anything now that Pat Quinn is no longer with us.

I'm glad I got my tickets to tomorrow's game. Can't wait to see what the Canucks will do to honour Pat.

Ch28 11-24-2014 04:29 PM

So glad I got to see him during Bure's jersey retirement. You can tell that he was either sick or getting old, simply because he was getting skinnier and skinnier everytime he made a public appearance.

What the roster would look like for a team comprised entirely of players from the 2003 draft.

Malkin has a point... the Penguins' offense can often outscore Fleury's brain farts (kinda like the WCE & Cloutier). But only during the regular season! :troll:

Willie confirms BoHo staying with the team.

murd0c 11-25-2014 09:43 AM

No surprise but it at least feels good to have a rookie stick with the team for once

#Canucks GM Benning clarifies that Horvat could still be sent to world junior camp by Dec. 18th. Just not going back to junior after 9 games
Hopefully he gets to play for Canada too. Bring back a gold medal!

CRS 11-25-2014 10:10 AM

Sending BoHo to the world juniors would probably be ideal since we're already committed to burning off a year of his entry level contract, by sending him to the juniors, we can avoid burning off a year from his being an UFA.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't that mean Bo would have to miss 42 games to avoid burning off a year?

I'm sure one of their conversations would have to have reassured him that he is wanted as a franchise player like the Sedins.

The thing is, you probably don't want to keep a rookie on every single game since you're trying not to burn him out. A rookie needs adequate rest especially since they aren't accustomed to an NHL 82 game schedule.

I'm sure the conversation was that you want him to be a franchise player but isn't that the conversation you have with all your players? When it comes down to it, you have the GM and you have your agent. It's all a game of leverage when contracts roll around and if you can prolong UFA by a year, you have that much more leverage.

Jmac 11-25-2014 10:29 AM

Going to WJCs wouldn't affect his UFA statud in the slightest.

"Accrued Season" means any League Year during which a Player was on a Club's Active Roster for 40 (30 if the Player is a goalie) or more Regular Season Games, provided that, for the purposes of calculating an Accrued Season under this Agreement, games missed due to a hockey-related injury incurred while on a Club's Active Roster shall count as games played for purposes of calculating an Accrued Season but only during the League Year in which the injury was incurred and a maximum of one additional season.

10.1 Unrestricted Free Agents.
(a) Group 3 Players and Free Agents.
(i) Any Player who either has seven (7) Accrued Seasons or is 27 years of age or older as of June 30 of the end of a League Year, shall, if his most recent SPC has expired, with such expiry occurring either as of June 30 of such League Year or June 30 of any prior League Year, become an Unrestricted Free Agent. Such Player shall be completely free to negotiate and sign an SPC with any Club, and any Club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign an SPC with such Player, without penalty or restriction, or being subject to any Right of First Refusal, Draft Choice Compensation or any other compensation or equalization obligation of any kind.
(ii) An Unrestricted Free Agent shall not be subject to any limitations on the period of time before which he may qualify as an Unrestricted Free Agent again, or to any limitations on the number of times he may become an Unrestricted Free Agent, except for a Group 5 Player, who may only elect to become a Group 5 Player once, but who may qualify to be another type of Unrestricted Free Agent in accordance with the terms of this Agreement.

Guess which team sits at the bottom.

I wonder how much of that has to do with them not being able to attract free agents and having no choice but to play draft picks?

I was under the impression that going to the juniors and then being sat out various games will make him miss an accrued year. I believe this has been discussed with other players in their rookie seasons.

Ronin 11-25-2014 11:04 AM

He should go WJHC. Canucks won't necessarily miss his 8 minutes and he has so much to gain from the experience. He's a good player now but he hasn't led his team to a big win yet in junior after 3 shots at the Memorial Cup.

Jmac 11-25-2014 12:29 PM

If he goes to the WJCs, he'll still be on the active roster. I'm not sure what the language was during the previous CBA.
