I think it was more the impact that caused Martin to leave his feet. The fault lies with Ballard for doing a 180 last second.

One replay made it look like Ballard was convulsing. Upon further review it looked like he just wanted to get up and away from the trainer.

Not sure why Ballard turned to face the boards when he saw the hit coming. Should have taken it on the side of his body.

It was 100% after impact. His feet are firmly planted at the point of impact.

Despite the unfortunate result, this kind of hit doesn't deserve supplemental discipline, IMO.
