Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have acquired defenceman Adam Clendening from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Gustav Forsling.
Clendening, 22, has split the 2014.15 season with the Chicago Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs. He collected two points (1-1-2) in four games with Chicago and 13 points (1-12-13) in 38 games with Rockford. In 2013.14 he was named an AHL First Team All-Star and, in 2012.13, was named a second team AHL All-Star and Rockford’s Rookie of the Year.
Prior to his professional career, Clendening played for Boston University. In his final year with Boston, he shared the lead among Hockey East defensemen with a career high 33 points (4-29-33) in 38 games with the Terriers. He was also named a Hockey East First Team All-Star and was one of two sophomores selected to the All-New England Division I All Star-Team.
On the international stage, Clendening was a member of Team USA at the 2010 IIHF World U18 Championships. He led defencemen in scoring at the tournament with 10 points (3-7-10), was named to the tournament all star team and won a gold medal. The 6’0”, 190-pound defenceman also won gold at the 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships.
The Niagara Falls, New York native was originally selected by Chicago in the second round, 36th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Clendening is a pretty good puck moving dman prospect, he's been playing well the last few years in the AHL and more ahead of Forsling in his development. I'm guessing Benning wants someone to step in sooner than later being reason for this trade.
Forsling looked good in the wjc but is young and completely raw
Clendening has a couple of seasons in the ahl.
Put up 46 pts in 73 games and 59 pts in 74 games the last couple of years
Looks like Stanton and Weber are walking at the end.
The trade makes total sense on a player thats going to be ready very soon, Benning knows what he's doing and its true we need someone now or next year and not in 3 years
All day long. Edmonton was far more than a goalie away back then, and are no closer now. The oilers would have ruined Schneider anyways. In this day and age of salary caps and emphasis on successful drafting, you take the best deal on the table imo. Mind you gillis may still have picked horvat at 7 but we could have had an extra prospect. Trading away a stud in the making player for an outside top 5 draft pick to any team can come back to bite you regardless, may as well hedge your get a bit
I have no problem admitting I was wrong with that but at least Benning has a proven track record unlike Gillis. It seemed like Gillis had a good game plane but a hole lot changed after that 2012 season.
How long did it take you to find that anyways, bored tonight I take it? lol

dude it was legit deja vu... typed gillis and murd0c into search. so about 350 seconds brah, fuckin lol,, word for word
doubt its to trade Tanev, more like to fill a need for a potential pp quarterback.
Think about it, Bieksa was shit in the pp, who else besides Edler/Tanev fits in a pp unit?
Corrado maybe, but he's looked tentative at times, Sbisa, Stanton, Weber are honestly god awful in the pp. Weber may be ok because of his shot but overall puck movement is shitty.
Guy has 2 points in 4 NHL games and scored on his first NHL game, has proven he can put up points in the minors so he's essentially ready here. Hell for all i care, we can now afford to waive either Weber or Stanton
Tanev will be re-signed. He's pretty much the heir apparent to Hamhuis when he leaves.
clendening isnt playing tonight WD said he wants him to practice and to get to know the system first. He is also wearing #44 and ronald kenins is wearing #41
