Didn't Kane say he didn't want to play in Vancouver because of all the pressure playing in front of his home town. Or was that Gilbert Brule? :concentrate:

Some of the logic in this thread is cringe worthy

"Yeah, I wouldn't mind acquiring a 30 goal scoring 23 year old, but I don't want to give up too much"

That was Brule, Kane has come out and said he wants to play in Vancouver.

Jmac 02-05-2015 10:24 AM

Yeah, Jets fans flipped out about that a few years ago. I may be wrong, but I think it was during a Cabbie interview.

He's had a really bad relationship with the management group since True North bought the Thrashers and moved them to the Peg. It's been obvious for a while that he's wanted out of there.
And, yeah, Kane is going to cost big to acquire. Totally worth it IF he wants to be here and won't act like a brat.

He could pull a Kesler and say the Canucks are the only team he wants to play for. The big issue is making cap room to fit his contract.

6o4__boi 02-05-2015 11:07 AM

yeah...lol we got no cap space
Burrows + a few others would have to be moved

Assuming the cap will be around 71M next season
we have ~16M to resign the following (just to name a few) :

sbisa
tanev
weber
clendening
corrado
stanton
matthias
dorsett
richardson
vey
kenins
markstrom

of them all, Tanev is looking at a hefty raise and money similar to Dan Hamhuis which would be 4.5M MINIMUM AAV.

sorry to burst any bubbles but Kane coming to Vancouver (at least for this season or next season) is about as likely as Torts coaching in the NHL again.

highfive 02-05-2015 11:22 AM

Apparently Big buff threw his clothes in the shower for going to practice dressed in that.

He didn't show up for the Canucks game at all apparently

Doesn't surprise me at all if true. Reports also coming out Evander Kane thinking about surgery and shutting it down for the year just as a F U to the Jets for a nagging injury that he has been able to play through.

As I said for the past few years, Kane on the Canucks with this group of players still on the Canucks would not work well, will be too many off ice issues. http://www.revscene.net/forums/66949...ml#post7996677

Of those guys, only Tanev gets a significant raise and most of those guys will be under $1M or released entirely.

Can always make cap as proven with the Garrison for a 2nd trade.

I'd tend to imagine that Kane would work out here because he wants to play in Vancouver, and our leadership group is pretty tight and could possibly help right all his wrongdoings in Winnipeg

It's hard to say with Evander. It sounds like this guy still needs to mature, and understand what it means to be a professional athlete.

Good on Byfuglien to throw that punk's clothes in the shower. That will teach him a lesson that he will never forget. :lawl:

Imagine, IF and a big IF, Kane becomes a Canuck. He pulls the same stunt by wearing a track suit to a team practice, or on gameday. You may see one of the veterans like Bieksa tell him that he's acting out of line.

If Torts was still our coach, he would give Evander an earful of F bombs for the tracksuit stunt, that's for sure.

What would coach Willie D. do if Kane wore a tracksuit to a team function? :suspicious:

Mike Oxbig 02-05-2015 12:34 PM

Evander doesnt want to play for Vancouver right now. Maybe in his 30s but not now. He wants to live a dream of a superstar with little spotlight on him in a big city.

Buff needs to get into a scrum with him before he gets traded, sending him a final message

6o4__boi 02-05-2015 12:56 PM

let's see...(my assumptions)

Tanev = ~4.5M
sbisa = 2M or will walk
weber = ~1.5M
clendening = 1.2M (2 years max)
corrado = 1.2M (2 years max)
stanton = will walk
matthias = 1.8M (2 years max)
dorsett = 1.8M
richardson = 1.5M
vey = 900k
kenins = 900k
markstrom = may get an offer sheet from another team

that's my best guess. The only salary dump for Kane to Vancouver to happen that I could see happening is Burrows+(Higgins or Bonino or Hansen). I don't think Benning will do that, not for Kane anyways.

i'd rather have Hanzal than Kane tbh. He's probably a better fit and can compliment Vrbata.

highfive 02-05-2015 01:34 PM

Bonino is only getting paid 1.8 million I think? (fuck I need capgeek back!)

Was reading the province where Kane might work out well in Vancouver. Family is here plus Perry Pearn coached him before.

Canucks Hat Trick: Kick trade tires on Kane, McLellan a master survivor, Willie?s new Kassian tact | The Province

6o4__boi 02-05-2015 01:53 PM

I could see him potentially turning his act around and becoming a star here it's a big if...but at the moment we can't afford him
and the price is going to be pretty steep i'd imagine

top prospect + 1st to start.

unless he continues to piss the Jets off and they wanna get rid of him ASAP. even so, if he doesn't have an NTC there are plenty of teams who can afford him and have the trade pieces to get him.
if he has an NTC he could pull a dick move and force the Jets on a destination :lawl:

EDIT: Jets just placed him on IR

Dorsett, Richardson and Mathias have made positive contributions to the team. I'd like to keep them around. I think having a solid bottom six is huge in the playoffs. Look at all the years of awesome by the Grind Line in Detroit. Those guys are all gritty but play with enough skill that they aren't a liability. I think Higgins is a good player as well, just not a 2nd liner. Probably best as a 3rd line player.

6o4__boi 02-05-2015 04:36 PM

Tanev out with an undisclosed injury
Sbisa prolly paired with Edler

:heckno: it could get ugly tonight if hammer doesn't pick up the slack

Tim Budong 02-05-2015 04:37 PM

Here's Buttfugly on the situation...pretty much Kane is done in Winnipeg..I can't see the locker room accepting him...unless he smartens the fuck up

"I’m sure you have rules in your household," he said, via the Free Press. "And if the kids don’t stick to it, you’ve got to discipline them. It is what it is."

That means we're not getting Kane :lol

Weber will have difficulty getting an NHL contract altogether, let alone a $1.5M ($900k raise) contract. He's like ... 9th on our depth chart (Bieksa, Edler, Hamhuis, Sbisa, and Tanev being our top 5. Stanton is ahead of him and it appears that Corrado and Clendening have passed him and Stanton now, too) ... and we don't exactly have a deep defensive core.

Clendening has 6 career games under his belt and is an RFA without arbitration rights. Ditto for Kenins. Ditto for Corrado. $900k would be a stretch for any of them barring all-star numbers to close out the season, let alone over $1M.

Markstrom and Sbisa likely sign their qualifying offers as soon as they can since they're both currently overpaid.

I don't think we'll be bringing Richardson back, personally. I like the guy, but at his age and with Horvat likely taking over the #3 spot soon, possibly this season, he'll want too much to play as a 4th line center. I feel we need a younger, grittier 4th line center, anyways.

6o4__boi 02-05-2015 06:47 PM

Fair enough...
I'm surprised it's not 3-0 sharks yet.
Miller's standing on his head right now
