Who exactly won from the past??? | Only one that I see is Wideman with the '11 Bruins.
Brodie is a young stud from the Calgary system.
Giordano is a consistent 30-45 point D man over the past few seasons and he's played with Iginla so he knows a bit about being a good leader who was drafted by Calgary and gone through their system.

As expected, Evander is opting for shoulder surgery. Coach Maurice said "That's a question for Evander" when reporters asked him about the timing of the surgery. Kane set for shoulder surgery; out 4-6 months - Article - TSN
Time heals shoulders, and possibly the bad blood between Kane and his team mates.
inb4 Evander asks for a trade to the Canucks.

If we trade away all the prospects, then who are the "core" going to groom?
At this point, I am disappointed with WD and his coaching. He hasn't shown me anything that says he has what it takes to coach in the NHL.
He doesn't show he has the ability to be dynamic.
He has yet to take a time out to settle the team after a few bad goals.
He claims he is happy with the 4th line of Horvat and Dorsett but he only plays them 10 minutes a game and is still pushing the Twins.
The PP is a joke, I have yet to see or hear of him talking to the PP coach to change things up.
And as time goes on, we are seeing more of the consequences of Gillis' incompetence. Mishandling of Scheneider and Luongo.
Horrible trade of CoHo.
The Canucks have no 22-24 year olds in Utica ready to make the jump to the NHL to make a difference.
At this point, the Canucks will remain the same, mid pack team that is just squeaking into the playoffs or being in 9th 10th place until this pack of young players are ready to set up in 3-4 years.

dude, Torts.
I know Willie isn't exactly sparkling in his first season but goddam i'd take him any day over Torts.
I've been frustrated with the pp blackout and the lack of compete but still this is a colossal upgrade over last year where any hope of winning games were imaginary.

Shitty PP. Losing games with little to no offence.
The team is basically the same team as last year. Of course this is a function of Gillis' incompetence and the current league and how it is hard to make an impact trade.
As this is still a work in progress, we will have to give Linden and JB a few more seasons to make this team a stronger team, but by then the twins will be ready to retire and do you honestly think we will have players that can step up on make a giant impact? It's asking a lot to think Horvat and Vertanen will be our future in a few years.

You're not going to win many games with a 4th line playing majority of the minutes. If they want to win then the Sedins have to produce like a first line and the second line has to be consistently giving you something as well.
The PP would work if the guys would skate and move while passing the puck around. Right now most of them are just standing still passing it back and forth while one guy cuts in and out of the middle. It's too easy for the other team to play your passing lanes if you stand still, much harder if you're moving.

^totally agree with your post! WD hasnt shown shit really...just that he might have better mustache then torts? But comparing to last years shit storm it looks like we might be trending that way in the second half of the season. Except this year instead of Kass being a stud hes dud and for now we are in a playoff position. But that shit can change game by game, this team really needs a trade/spark to get them going and get the fans cheering for something/anything.
As for the PP it is fucking god awful literally all other teams need to do is stay in a box position and let the sedins pass to themselves like no tomorrow. I mean seriously its the same garbage every pp edler skates it out drop pass to hank skates over the blue line passes to danny then spend another minutes passing randomly to eachother. Maybe passing it to some other canuck players someone fucks up and dump the other way...

Also I would give horvat more playing time compared to guys like vey my god is vey garbage! He cannot play centre in the Pacific guy gets eaten up all day in the faceoff and is not strong on the puck at all...also higgins has gone invisible just like last year in the second half. I think JB should really ask him to waive his limited NTC and give him some teams who he wants to go to..

/fan-coach rant | Sorry, mis-read your post but I still stand behind what I said.
The current league is getting more and more difficult to make an impact trade.
Most of the big trades you see are salary for salary. Troubled player for another troubled player.
Gillis really fucked up the team and a player like CoHo/Kassian should be one of those players who are entering the prime of their career and should be helping lead the team but instead we have bandaid fixes and pushing the Twins to do better.
The twins still work their magic against the weaker teams but they are constantly being shut down by the true cup contending teams. Good teams play a speed game and the Twins are too slow and too predictable.
One thing I must disagree with you PiuYi, is that the 4th line playing less minutes is what the old NHL use to be when the 4th line was filled with goons and plugs. In today's speed/skill game, there is no fourth per se.
You have a top line, maybe a second scoring line and then a 3A and a 3B line. But in the case of Horvat and Dorsett, they are constantly being 2 of the better 12 forwards during the course of the game. The twins, Vrabata and player X with Edler on the point is still the first PP line. The Twins still get top minutes but aren't producing. TBH, I think 70 points might even be a far stretch for the twins to his this season. It is starting to look like they may top out somewhere between 50 and 60 points at the current rate.

there really is no trade to be made out there if you're the Canucks...like i said, the roster players don't have much value and the only way you can land a trade would be to give up picks/prospects. I just don't see this happening unless the returns are huge but let's face it, one trade wouldn't unsink this ship. WD inherited a sinking ship from an idiot who steered it into rocks. JB and TL essentially gave him a cup to try to keep himself afloat while they build a new ship. That's why i can't really see him being worse than Torts.
Jury's out on WD vs Torts but as far as I'm concerned, WD is better by laps. Torts was a piece of shit coach who couldn't connect to any of his players and was prone to being a little bitch behind the bench. Watching him lose his shit was fun but that was about it. When you're bitch moaning to the players during a game, it's hilarious but at the same time it's fucking embarassing. This ain't the 70's, you ain't Grapes. There's a reason why he's not employed and probably never will be. His coaching style is out of touch with today's game.
it's a circular argument really, we suck because we have the same players, we have the same players because we suck. It's gonna be like this until a new core emerges. I'm ok with that. I'd wait until they have a better idea of how the prospects fit into the big picture (ie. Shinkaruk, Horvat, Gaunce, McCann, Jensen, Cassels, Subban, Corrado, Clendening...) before i'd consider any moves. Unless of course there are irrefusable trades out there.

Look at Calgary. Yes they did well in the drafts these past few years, but they also have a lot of talent that they built up from their farm system.
Add in a few veterans and Hiller and we are were we are today.
In the next few years, if nothing major happens, I can see Calgary getting stronger.

Hudler and Harley definitely brought in championship experience to the locker room. With Sam Bennett, money hands and Johnny hockey. Flames will be a good competitive team to watch.
Brodie defence and skating is incredible. Next Duncan Keith? |

Vancouver is gonna end up lime Calgary, but won't be able to rebound so quickly.
.
I mean, the team blew out the core...but from an outsider, they held on to the core group a bit too long.
