First off, I'll come clean. I'm an oilers fan, and heres how I feel about this McDavid situation.
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING can fix the oilers problems until management from the coke head megalomaniac owner down to the trainers are gone. The team has built a losing culture and no players want to go somewhere where there is a losing culture. There has been no accountability for mistakes made with contracts, trades, management hiring and so forth. No team has has this pathetic of a run in any of my memories. I'm embarrassed that we are in this situation and even more embarrassed that an 18 year old kid is unhappy about making it to the NHL because our team is so fucking shitty. Edmonton has a tough hand dealt to them, because the city is a fucking shithole, so they basically need to pay players a premium to be there. Before, at least we could satisfy hockey loving, hockey players by allowing them to be a part of what was one of the most impressive histories in recent memory. That has been all but erased by the embarrassment of the KLOWE and Katz dick suck festival that has been happening since 2006. Until they show players that they are serious about turning the team around, there is no hope, McDavid or not.
I still remember holding the stanley cup with Billy Ranford back in 1990. Its one of my first vivid memories. At this point I'd be happy holding a fucking playoff ticket and a 13 dollar budweiser cup.

What was going through McDavid's head when the Oilers won the lottery:

Let's hope McDavid pulls a Lindros.

If he does, will the Oilers become the Nordiques and poach a team for its best players, and go on to win the Stanley Cup a few years later? :considered:

He still calls them an incredible organization

Jmac 04-18-2015 08:44 PM

Literal breakdown of the word incredible is "not credible."

incredible
/ɪnˈkrɛdəbəl/
adjective
1.
beyond belief or understanding; unbelievable

DanHibiki 04-18-2015 09:05 PM

Oilers are definitely beyond understanding.

murd0c 04-18-2015 09:20 PM

wow Ducks win with 19 seconds to go.. Ref's missing a number of calls talk about bad news for the Jets

tonyzoomzoom 04-18-2015 09:25 PM

tough luck for the Jets. Reminds me of Game 1 for the Nucks.

spoon.ek9 04-18-2015 09:28 PM

he can't exactly shit talk the team that's going to draft him. he's just playing a role atm as he has no other choice but to do so.

Poor fucking kid...

westopher 04-18-2015 09:42 PM

He's gonna make a couple hundred million dollars. He's hardly worthy of being called "poor fucking kid."

too bad Miller has a modified NTC, or else id trade him with one of our D for Hall

Pretty sure the modified NTC is only valid for the first season?

Or is it all 3 years with him being able to list 5 teams?

Obsideon 04-18-2015 10:27 PM

Now that the Oilers are stacked beyond stacked in the top 6 maybe they will finally deal one of them away for some solid D and a goalie.

bobbinka 04-18-2015 10:55 PM

the sportsnet central set must have been a little cold today

white rocket 04-18-2015 10:56 PM

aaaaaaaaaaaaad...... McDavid went to where we all knew he would. Whatevs. It's how it works. I cheer for the Oilers due to fam living there and their 80's dynasty but with a team so stacked and loyal(if not the most loyal) fans in the NHL it's sad to watch it get squandered away by shitty management. It would seem that cleaning house is the only way.

heartbreaker for the Jets :(. I hope they at least get a home win!

coulden't he say something like "I hope EDM dosent draft me" or something like that in hopes that they don't pick him? or would he be fined/not allowed to say shit about any team?

The Oilers finished 26th in goal scoring this season and haven't cracked the top half of the league in scoring since '05-'06 (15th) and have actually been trending down since 2011.

They aren't as stacked up front as you'd hope a team with three 1st overall picks in its top 6 would be.

Also, of note, they had a -90 goal differential this past season. Bubble teams are generally around even; McJesus isn't going to make up a 90-goal differential by himself.

If he did he would not be the first, Eric Lindros is one guy that comes to mind in the NHL also Steve Francis with the Grizzlies, John Elway in the NFL and I'm sure there are a bunch more.

McDavid isn't stupid, his parents aren't stupid they've told him to embrace wherever he goes and don't be that guy.

Tim Budong 04-19-2015 02:30 AM

McDavid can talk smack about Edmonton, but knowing their management, they will draft him anyways. Eric Lindros had his agent do the trash talking

Steve Francis outright said no Vancouver

The funny thing is, McDavid and Hall could be fantastic... but we said the same thing about the rest of their picks

Whatever it is, McDavid's a good kid and he's gonna go to Deadmonton, pay his "dues" and decide his future that way. From now till draft day, all McDavid has to do is play his PR cards right and go win the Memorial Cup. Whether a Hall/McDavid combo is coachable is yet to be seen.

and then this
