Sure Stamkos going to Europe would be something, but as said, he looks injured. Then again, he's still in the playoffs
JT on the other hand... if he goes, that depth down the middle is scary as fuck.

Looks like all the Swedes are either opting out of the WHC or still in the playoffs

prolly cus WHC is a mean-nothing tourney and is littered with scavenged parts from the NHL that are pretty disappointed to be there
as an NHL'er you don't really wanna be there cus it means your team is out
it's that shitty period between when you would've been playing at the SC playoffs and summertime fun
maybe it's because i've seen Canada get domed like no tmrw at the WHC over the years but WJC > WHC any day every day.

Yea most of the Countries teams are pretty weak this year with a lot of their top player either unavailable or turning down invites. I really like Canada's chances this year, even with that iffy goaltending.
Russia is still considered the favorites by Vegas/betting sites, they just added Malkin, Tarasenko and Kulemin. Radulov and Yakupov are injured and they will be hoping to add Datsyuk or Kucherov depending on the outcome of the Det/TB series. Right now, their roster should look something like:
Panarin - Shipachyov - Dadonov
Kovalchuk - Tikhonov - Tarasenko
Mozyakin - Malkin - Zaripov
Loktonov - Anisimov - Kulemin
Kulikov - Yakovlev
Antipin - Grigoryev
Mironov - Rukavishnikov
Belov
Bobrovsky
Khudobin
I still like Canada's chances best, lets hope Mike Smith can stop a beach ball.

maybe it's because i've seen Canada get domed like no tmrw at the WHC over the years but WJC > WHC any day every day. | All NHLers obviously rather be in the playoffs still, but the WHC is actually a pretty important tourney as it plays a pretty big role in Olympic qualifying and seeding. With the disaster of a team the USA is sending this year, along with the current placement of USA in IIHF rankings, if they shit the bed, there is a chance USA could be relegated for the next Olympics. They will be leaning on Eichel as their go to player in this years tourney.

lol this hasn't been Smith's year at all
wouldn't surprise me if he gets ventilated in the first few games
can they still add goalies? or is that set in stone already.

As for US being relegated, i highly doubt it...caman, it ain't fifa rankings. There's a chance but it's pretty slight. I mean, how many nations actually have competitive hockey teams? Probably the top 10?
At the moment, the Swiss, Slovaks, Latvians, and Norweigans round up the top 10 after the Americans.
I dunno about you but the danger of relegation is pretty slight regardless of the disaster the Americans send in.
As shitty as this tourney is, and as shitty as the US team is on paper you never really know.

Matteau - Hendricks - Lewis
Smith - Arcobello - Morin
Vesey - Eichel - Moses
Matthews - Larkin - Sexton
Krug - Faulk
Reilly - Murphy
Moore - Redmond
Gardiner
Hellebuyck
Lyon
Seth Jones and Bonino are joining the team later this week.

Basically any Canadian goalie not named Mike Smith would be a better option.
He's good but he's been so fragile this year. All it takes is that one bad goal and the flood gates open.

Doughty will most likely play for Canada at the next winter Olympics so he's not worried. IMO thats the gold that means the most, when each country has selected their best players to represent them.
I guess Jamie Benn turned it down too.
